Voltmeter variation.
I noticed my fuel gauge had dropped by about 1/8th and then some 10 mins later or less it had recovered, this happens on a longer drive two or more times. i then noticed this coincided with the voltmeter dropping to about 12v and then recovering. The ignition warning light does not come on. Its a 19...

Re: Speed and revs, 60mph = 4100 revs!
Speedo has 1216 n the face, which as you suggest says matched to a 3.31, but i believe all USA 1.5 cars would have original had 3.54, so maybe the speedo is not original, but in any event i used the gps to measure my speed which i regard as reasonably accurate. I went along the M4 in a 50 mile limit...

Re: Speed and revs, 60mph = 4100 revs!
It is the whole job i will want doing. It is a good point that until the diff is out it wont known for sure that it can be rebuilt. Are second hand 3.07 complete diffs around or are they hens teeth now? I am sure the temptation will be a bit of a refurb of the irs once its out too, so i am sure the ...

Re: Speed and revs, 60mph = 4100 revs!
Thanks for the suggestions, i did the input turns measuring suggestion and found one wheel turn equals something like 4 turns of the prop shaft, hard to be precise but maybe slightly more than 4 turns. So I think my culprit is the wrong diff, I did not know there was a diff lower geared than 3.54. S...

Speed and revs, 60mph = 4100 revs!
Recently i got my 1968 US series 1.5 import back on the road here in the UK after conversion to SU and RHD. The issue i have is the very high gearing, i took it on a first long motorway drive at the weekend and i could not believe how bad the gearing was. The handbook table says for a 3.54 US diff t...

Re: Moving front brake calipers to the rear - Series 1, 4.2 OTS
My understanding too, is that the front pistons removed from the calipers can be moved to the back on a series 1 to replace the rear pistons only, leaving the rest of the rear brake assembly unchanged. Its on my future to do list.

Re: Bonnet wont stay up on its own
Thanks for the advice, it was now obvious once i looked that the spring balance brackets had not been replaced and tightened in their previous position when the garage put the bonnet back on. A quick loosen on the 4 bolts on one side, slide the bracket so that the 2 bolts for the bonnet in the brack...

Bonnet wont stay up on its own
My 1968 series 1.5 ots bonnet wont stay up, is there adjustment? The car is just back from a classic car specialist after a few months away being converted to RHD and conversion to triple SU. Before the car went away the bonnet would stay up once opened on its own.

Re: Speedo Angle drive broken
Thanks for the advice. Its seem obvious now about the different speedo take account of the different ratios, i should have known that was the answer. Hopefully i will find i need a new cable and that will solve my problem.

Speedo Angle drive broken
I think i need a new speedo angle drive, the cable is not rotating at the speedo end. I have read other threads, it looks like its a pain to get to and change. But my question is do i need to be concerned about the repacement part from a UK supplier? My car is series 1.5 USA import so diff is a 3.54...

Re: USA e type
I would suggest this website for UK focused adverts, its free.
https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/list/22/e-type/
Having recently imported i can say any UK buyer will need to spend circa $4k to ship, insure and pay duties, plus if they want to have it convert to RHD professionally another $7k,
Good luck

Re: Importing V55/5 Reg document pic ?
I went through this process in October, i arranged a letter from the JEC confirming they were satisfied it was original e type car, which i included in my V55/5 submission, but a few weeks later the DVLA wrote and said i needed to arrange for an inspection by SCS. So the JEC letter did not help me a...

Re: S2 brake calipers for S1.5 car = no fit?
Thanks for confirming, i was talking about the fronts only, shame about the answer, so i will have to consider 4 pots, good job i did not bid on the S2 calipers, i had read that my front calipers then moved to the rear are an upgrade on my current setup

S2 brake calipers for S1.5 car = no fit?
Just checking that series 2 calipers wont fit my series 1.5 car? Series 2 calipers seem to come up on ebay at not too much money, £xx. But If i want better calipers i need to buy 4 pot calipers for £xxx. Is this accurate?

Re: Phone / sat nav adaptor
I am pretty sure no such adaptor will exist. Why not convert the car to negative earth, or try powering the satnav from a mobile phone external rechargeable power pack. When you say install a 12v socket, do you mean another cigar lighter fitting but wired for negative earth? If you do you would need...

Thanks for the info, i dont have the S1 4.2 thermostat, it was not on my shopping list, which already grew and grew. I bought the set of SUs from SC parts, https://www.scparts.co.uk/sc_en/british-cars/jaguar/e-type-series-1-and-2-1961-1970/competition-parts-and-accessories/carburettor/carburettors-1...

SU conversion on 1968 S1.5, what thermostat housing to use?
I am a newbie here and this is my first post. I have recently imported into the UK a 1968 series 1.5 which is being converted to RHD and next i am to set about removing the twin strombergs and install a triple SU set up. I did not buy the kit as there was very long lead time and i also thought the k...
