Re: S1 4.2 . low engine pressure on one cylinder
Based on my experience under similar circumstances I'd suggest you've got a bent valve, so I'd be doing the leak down tests suggested by others above and then removing the cylinder head before contemplating removing a piston.

Re: Exhaust question/recommendations
The quietest system I believe, is the original system which is available new direct from Jaguar under their Classic Parts banner. Yes, it's made from mild steel and it won't last forever like a stainless system but it is quiet and is as original. I have it fitted to my car and it was so quiet that I...

Fuel tank gaskets suitable for fuels with ethanol in.
Given it's not recommended to use cork gaskets with ethanol*, does anyone know of an alternative supply for C22226 and C937 made out of a material appropriate for modern fuels that have some % of ethanol in them such as neoprene?

https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#/UK/parts/8bb43c77-9ccf-46eb-b028-7a4f50621e89 This is the SU pump as fitted by Jaguar originally but updated with electronic "points" to make it more reliable. It will still "click" but in a much quieter way probably than the one you've got fitted and is OE so is...

Re: Emissions equipment
Yes that's what we know as a Facet type pump. They do click continuously so that's normal but they are very reliable just not OE fitment by Jaguar which would have been a SU type pump. If it's working fine and the clicking doesn't annoy you I'd leave it. You can mitigate the noise to some extent by ...

Re: Emissions equipment
I suggest you take a photo of the pump you've got and post it on here, someone will be knowledgable enough to know whether you've got an SU with mechanical or the later electronic points.

Re: Emissions equipment
A car fitted with a SU fuel pump will click continually when the engine is running, that is normal. The original SU pumps with mechanical points inside should not click when the engine is stationary (apart from when you first turn the ignition on and the carb fuel chamber is filled) unless you have ...

Re: RHD speedo cable route
Don't worry about the cable appearing to be too long. Firstly take Christopher's advice and make sure the cable passes through the bulkhead as close as possible on the direct route to the back of the speedo. Secondly use the length of cable left in the engine compartment to make the biggest, most ge...

Re: Ignition light Issue
It is ironic that you've encountered the two most unreliable sensors on a Series 2, the oil pressure and 3AW although the 4TR isn't that far behind  The good news is that you can unplug the 3AW all together and live without it. Your alternator will continue to work fine. You already know how t...

Re: Ignition light Issue
The original 3AW was an electro-mechanical device which by its design couldn't cause flickering of the ignition warning light if the alternator exceeded a certain voltage. It also wasn't a very reliable device and has been unavailable in its original form for many years during which time several sub...

Re: Successful RHD->LHD parts exchange!
Great outcome. All very reminiscent to me of doing the same with a Gentleman from Sweden 30 years ago. You both potentially get the benefit of dashboards with a period patina which new replacements don't have. When we did it we only exchanged steering rack tubes to save on shipping costs as the stee...

Re: Identifying shocks and ride height
For many years the advice was don't change your rear springs from the original ones as the new replacements available wouldn't give you the correct ride height. More recently I seem to recall seeing an SNG advert saying they'd had new springs made that were correct so might be worth checking out. Th...

Re: Replacing Chrome Windscreen Trim
In my view the thing folks don't allow for is that even if you use the trims that came off that particular car originally by the time the car has been repainted the A post has a thicker layer of filler/primer/paint/lacquer on it than it did out of the factory and they won't fit when you come to put ...

10-32 UNF is the next size down from 1/4 UNF used on our cars. The major diameter is 0.19 inch.
There is a 12-28 size of UNF bolt between 10-32 and 1/4 UNF but I'm not aware it's used on our cars.

Re: Positive/Negative earth?
Are there any advantages to converting from Positive earth to Negative earth and as a rough guide, what parts would need exchanging on the car? You gain a small advantage in less corrosion of the bodywork You can fit any modern electronic accessory without problems As for parts you need to exchange...

Re: 1969 E Type Series 2 fuses are smoking hot
The "pinkish wire with black bands" (originally red with black bands) comes from the sidelight switch (the leftmost of the double rocker light switch) and goes on via fuse 5 to feed the sidelight circuit (the red wire) which is all the sidelight and panel lights feed.

I think you'll find the problem is linked to poor earths in the bonnet loom and the front lights, that's the area to check.

Colin, on the subject of the orientation of the slots in the large radius arm bushes, have a look through the posts on here. Certainly a while back the consensus was to rotate the bushes by 90 degrees so the slots were at the sides rather than in line as originally fitted by Jaguar. The rationale fo...

Wiring diagrams in the Knowledge Base suggest that only 4 terminals are used on the back of the switch. Have a look at this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8i1ljkfu1wkl7 ... g.JPG?dl=1
