Re: "A" Post seal retainers
Rory, as for rivets from inside, it would be difficult to get the rivet gun in place from outside, though not disputing your thoughts as these could well be replacements or what they did later on S2 vs S1. There are no holes showing to indicate they didn’t use the original rivet hole positions if th...

Re: Building a Merlin engine.
Christopher, have you read “Not Much of an Engineer” by Stanley Hooker? Supremo of supercharger design at RR. If not you must. Great reading for anyone interested in engines, piston and jet. He relates how when the Merlin was being discussed for production by Ford that they told RR they couldn’t wor...

Re: Building a Merlin engine.
The info is probably somewhere in the KB but do we know the reason why Jaguar went from using split pins to the locknuts on the big ends which are now shown as what must be used? Any reflection on Merlin’s being built by well trained engine technicians? Though they went into mass production by the l...

George, try looking at SNGB for part no C18296. No. 20 on here https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#/uk/FindParts/Families/E-Type%20~2F%20XKE/3/E-Type%20S1%204.2%20FHC/82/SUSPENSION/9705/assembly/21400?sectionIds=%5B7809%5D Could that be it as it is described as a special, though slightly different l...

You won't get a 2+2 with 3 wipers I don't think. Except the S1 2+2 which has three wipers, fyi Malcolm. On the S2 2+2 the bottom windscreen line was pulled forward to almost touch the bonnet, whereas on the S1 the 2+2 windscreen bottom line was at the same position as the FHC giving a more upright ...

Re: Mangoletsi throttle pedal assembly
For a simple kit that makes use of the existing pedal: A bracket to take a double cable from the pedal lever A dual cable attachment to that lever that will go onto the ball without damaging said ball so that the original rod system can be re-instated A bracket at the airbox or thereabouts to feed c...

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
Didn’t David say lead for the two eared spinners of the S1 as you are striking directly on the spinner, but copper for hitting the brass(?) adapter that goes over the S2 federal three eared spinners?

Isn’t the nominal size hammer a no. 2 for the copper/hide hammer? That weighs in at a bit over 1 kg, not 2 kg. This nylon one weighs 1.2 kg. https://www.thorhammer.com/product/12-716n/

Aren’t a couple of studs longer, eg on the exhaust where the dipstick clamp attaches?

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
Ah! So it’s a hammer not a mallet Sorry, couldn’t resist that.
Thanks Jerry, now I can get one myself and keep it to hand. Though I rarely need to use a hammer or mallet as the spinner adapter and breaker bar do a fine job for me. And others will know which one to buy too.
Cheers

Re: Shell ID
Depending on what is needed to get your rusty FHC repaired have you spoken to Chuck at Monocoque? He has very good quality panels that fit well. Might be worth talking to him first. And there’s Hutsons in the UK, too. They have very good quality panels to help. https://www.hutsonmoco.co.uk/jaguar ht...

Tim, as encouraged before, go for the mid point, 90 degree position and halve that as suggested above, please.
It will really help get you to the real TDC.

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
Ross, I have one of the adapters you mentioned and find that sometimes I need to stand on the end of the breaker bar if the spinners have tightened up in use. Also you can sometimes find a jack under the breaker bar with the weight of the car against it will start loosening the spinner. It is easy t...

Will these help? https://i.imgur.com/707EoLC.jpg https://i.imgur.com/GTy0nrX.jpg I’d suggest painting them body coloured as you can see the edges which are not covered by the rubber. And about 15mm from the wing to the aft edge, but not an exact figure all the way from top to bottom. Certainly not a...

Re: How to secure sill to sill closing panel?
Philippe, Sika 4720 is an appropriate adhesive for those panels, you will need a compressed air sealant gun to properly apply it.
