I don't wish to be contentious but who really cares about the value apart from 'investors'. Mine is there to be used and I'm sure the more its used the more its value is diminished but the smile on my face continues to get bigger.

I'm trying to learn and understand what difference a change in tyre pressures will make to handling/roadholding. If we use the example of 32psi all round and drive the car then change to 30 front 35 rear what difference should I be able to detect? Is it correct that an increase in pressures results ...

I travelled their on Friday by train and really enjoyed it. There was a very friendly atmosphere with people on the stands very available to talk. It wasn't too crowded and when compared with Birmingham more manageable because it wasn't so huge; I do find Birmingham exhausting. As has been said most...

In my experience with model engineering (live steam locomotives) I've found that relatively small bore copper pipe will easily collapse at the bend unless pipe benders are used. The outer covering of hose would, I reckon, preclude the use of a pipe-bender. An alternative might be to bend a short len...

I really can't understand why people are getting so overheated over a car that they either don't want or can afford. If you've got an e type enjoy it or if you're convinced its overvalued sell it. If you were looking to buy and the car is now too expensive look for an alternative. I'm very fortunate...

I've just looked at the latest edition of the club magazine and Evans waterless coolant appears to be endorsed by JD, Eagle, CKL and others in their advert. Are they all wrong or have I misunderstood something?

No need to get cross Carsten , as I said its low interest rates driving asset inflation. Yes I do buy food and energy; this includes petrol which has fallen 10p litre recently and central heating oil which has remained stable for over a year. But as you say this is all off-topic, it would be great i...

Carsten, what inflation, its 2.2%. low interest rates are probably the driver for stimulating investment in 'alternative assets'. Surely the 'real' price is the price that cars are being bought and sold although the car in question does look rather toppy. On the other hand this was said a few years ...

Would a more appropriate comparison be between the GTO and the factory lightweight cars? Both were built in small numbers for a particular purpose and with their associated racing histories and rarity have become valuable. If we compare a Ferrari from the era of mass production, say from the 308 onw...

I looked at the car whilst mine was at EType UK for its annual service etc.
and was bowled over by it, a true timewarp specimen; it felt like I'd been taken back 50 years. I'd love to buy it but the paper round is not as lucrative as it used to be

I believe he also drove a Porsche 356 for a few years before the Jaguars. If i remember correctly there were some good stories in his column about such matters as servicing the E type by the road in Spain :)

18 thou is only 0.25 mm so fitting one of those two gaskets will cause quite a significant lowering of compression ratio.

I have to agree with you Tony. When I first bought my car 3 years ago I had plans to modify suspension, brakes, wheels etc. After using the car for some time I can't really see the need to make changes apart from a mild upgrade to the brakes. The driving experience of a well set-up E Type is extreme...

E Type UK are the people for me, I live in Suffolk and am happy to have a couple of hour journey to Kent to deal with them. A really good team, great service and its always interesting to nosey around the workshop and showroom. I highly recommend that you call them and arrange a visit.

Peter
I've just checked the Jaguar Maintenance Chart that came with my re-print of the Operating, maintenance and Service Handbook for the 4.2 E Type. That chart does refer to 5W/20 and 10/30 oils from Esso and Regent although with a caveat that they should not be used in worn engines.
