Re: Brake master cylinder

It sounds as though your seals have failed anyway, if they are breaking down and contaminating the brake fluid. You could just replace the seals if the cylinder bores are ok. Series 2 dual circuit brakes can be notoriously difficult to bleed, especially when you've rebuilt or replaced both master an...

Re: Restoration finish of suspension wishbones

Yes, hydrogen de-embrittlement needs to be carried out within about 3 hours of the plating process and is carried out at around 200 to 250 Celsius for around 4 hours, depending on the material.

It's probably a bit late for you Carsten. :salute:

:yeahthat:

Then you find that it's too tight and the glass won't slide up and down so you have to carefully slice some of the seal away. :banghead:

Re: Garage Floor Tiles

Interesting, and a decent price (these days). But:-

How do you cover a whole floor when they are only slotted on two sides?

They would have to be laid in double width strips with no interlocking between them.

Re: Garage Floor Tiles

Hi David is right, but if you're going to the trouble and expense of laying a self levelling screed then I would epoxy paint it after it has cured and before it gets contaminated with oil, etc. However, my experience of self levelling screeds is that they don't really, without a lot of help. Re: E-Type Chassis ID Plate S1 Auto NON Power steer - Do they exist?

Hi Stuart, thanks for the help. I had a look but it looks like they only have the Ids that say Gear Box No, and not Automatic Transmission No, did yours say Automatic..? Thanks, Blair No, but my car isn't a 2+2 so auto isn't appropriate. Sorry for the slightly bum steer. Dan definitely stamped mine...

Re: E-Type Chassis ID Plate S1 Auto NON Power steer - Do they exist?

I got my replacement chassis plate from Dan Mooney at Classic Jaguar in the USA. I got mine in late 2017 but the company still very much exists. If I remember correctly his reproduction was the closest to the original item. Just send what details you want on it and he will stamp it up accordingly. H...

Re: air horns where they factory accessories ?

We are seeing 2 pairs of horns and the compressor has at least 5 pipes connected to it so it probably plays or played a tune.

Re: air horns where they factory accessories ?

became illegal in the UK from about the mid 1990s onwards My understanding is that musical horns (colonel Bogey, La Cucaracha, Never on a Sunday, etc) were banned in 1973 in the UK but vehicles built before then could/can use them. My mate had some on his 1968 Cortina back in the cruising days. He ...

I sent my enquiry on Wednesday evening, got my reply on Thursday morning and paid the invoice late Thursday afternoon. Imagine my surprise when the parcel arrived t...

I wondered why it wouldn't start.

Not an E Type, not even a Jaguar but the same problems exist across the classic spares market. https://i.postimg.cc/BbwrsP05/IMG-20230611-163818526.jpg Less than 1000 miles in service and following replacing an aftermarket fuel pump that had done less than 200 miles. Re: 3.8 indicator switch

Yes, it is called an "action spring" and is available from SNG Barratt and others.

I think there is a "how to" guide somewhere on here but I couldn't find with a quick search.

Re: Ally rad and fans, Radtec, NAR, other?

I wouldn't worry about that. Its not a massive thermal shock.

There will be a small benefit from running the fans after shutdown in that it will be pushing cooler air around the engine compartment, but not a massive gain. It certainly won't directly cool the cylinder heads.

Re: FHC rear seal (yes again)

Yes, it's a tricky job but patience and an investment in decent windscreen fitting tools pays off. You get the feeling that the chrome is going to creep its way back out, and sometimes it does during the fitting process, but careful manipulation as you go ensures it stays where you put it. It is nec...

Re: Heater Transfer Pipe Replacement

I fitted copper transfer pipes in my 3.8 coupe when the shell came back from paint. It was an easy job because it was just a shell. I looped some thin rope through the pipes and passed them around myself so that, by leaning back while standing between the engine frames, I could keep the flanges pull...

Judging by the amount of rust, I reckon it must have been on the car for at least 2 weeks.
