Re: Rear engine (manual gearbox) mount
Hi Colin, The only difference between the auto and the manual gearbox mount I am aware of is the rating of the spring to allow for the heavier autobox. The auto has 5 coils and from memory the manual has 3. The pictures you found on jag-lovers are from my auto S3 E Type not an XJ6. There is more dis...

Re: series 3 fuel line routing under bonnet
Hi Paul, Yes the feed side is basically a mirror image of the return system with a Pclip fixing the flex hose to the RH frame gusset plate - just visible as a blury item at the head of the bottom arrow in Feed-2. This is the feed rigid to flex transition - https://i.postimg.cc/0y4z1mTx/Feed-3.jpg

Re: I have a big end knock on Number 4
With a fuel consumption of 1660gal/hr it would empty the fuel tank in 30secs so careful journey planning required.

A 2+2 would have a third board but then it shouldn't say 3.8 on it.

Re: Torque figure - Radius Arm Bolt
Hi Paul, Had you originally had the radius arms off or was there a problem, such as a knock, which led you to feel the need to remove the wire locking to check the bolts were at the correct torque? The reason I ask is that looking at a blown up version of your photo, it looks as if the bush is cockl...

Re: Restoration finish of suspension wishbones
It is known that some early S1 cars left the factory with black front suspension components but otherwise I believe bright cadmium plating was used until the end of production. The last S3 was retained by Jaguar and pictures, taken at Robey's during restoration for the E-Type's 40th anniversary, cer...

Re: Wheel clamp??
Hi Bernie AFAIK S1/2 spare wheels were always supplied stored face down using a short shaft handle and rectangular clamp. With a redesigned boot floor to accommodate a larger fuel tank, S3s had the spare mounted face up so the clamp needed a longer shaft. Two versions are listed, BD36809 for the sta...

Re: Engine lifting frame
The angle an engine and box combo has to achieve in order to be removed from an S3 car, without damage, is quite high. Going in too - in the factory early in production with bonnet already fitted. There appears to be a temporary Butec interference pad in the bonnet bulge. https://i.postimg.cc/kGt61...

Hi John, The extract was from the later, tan coloured USA Specification Handbook pub No. A181/1 shown below. Worth getting to help understand the emissions kit and contains information not in the Workshop Manual but does not contain detailed system operation descriptions, being mainly dismantling/re...
