#1 First post after lurking for nearly 3 years

Post by zigzagsky » Sat Apr 29, 2017 11:42 am

So back in 2014 I started to seriously start thinking about getting my dream car and joined the forum to learn more and help prepare me for the search and eventual ownership.

Sadly other events took over and I had to shelve the idea.

But now, nearly 3 years later, the search is on again and I thought I had better introduce myself and say hello.

I'm living in Berkshire and looking for a Series 3 fixed head. I'm not too bothered about being LHD or RHD but ideally it will be an auto and in generally good condition. Why a Series 3? Well I've sat in both S2 and S3 cars and because I'm tall, the S3 was far more comfortable.

I'm not looking for a concours car or one that's worth too much as I'd probably not enjoy driving it due to the worry of getting it damaged so the car for me will be structurally sound with a bit of age related wear and tear. I'm fairly good with the oily bits so will try and do as much of the mechanical bit myself as possible.

So hello everybody, wish me luck and hopefully I will find something suitable in the coming months.

Hi Brian...welcom to the forum....lots of great info and advice to be had.....good luck with the search......have you looked and sat in the S1/S2 2+2 models.....i think exactly the same size inside as the S3....then you get the 6 cyl which is a lot simpler to look after than the S3...all the best.. Hi Steve

Thanks for the welcome message. Yes I have sat in an S2 2+2 but still found it cramped and getting in and out through the door seemed more difficult. Might take another look at an S2 to make sure though...

Hi and welcome. I'm 6ft 1in (and a bit) and I have a series 2 2+2, so maybe worth another look. Good luck in your search!

Quick update. I was at the White Lion Antiques classic car meet this morning and a Series 2 2+2 owner kindly let me sit in his car and you are right, it isn't too cramped at all and just about enough headroom.

So I can now look for a Series 3 or Series 2 2+2.

Interesting times ahead.
