Good Evening to everyone,
I have a pleasure to own a Jaguar E type OTS 1-1/2 4.2 from 1968, who was bought by my father in 1989.
When he bought it the car was not in good conditions, it was in dark blue with tan interior, and he decided to restore it in red + black leather.
These days i bought a Jaguar Heritage and surprisingly the exterior paint colour of the car result to be Sable with Tan interior and Fawn soft top.
I made a research on Internet and the sable colour was only available for Series 2 cars, from 1969/maybe end 1968.
I have never seen picture of series 1-1/2 cars with this colour.
What do you think? The heritage certificate could have made a mistake or the car was actually in this colour?
I post it the Jaguar Heritage so maybe can help...

Ps...also look here shown as a 1.5 sable tan hood http://www.xkedata.com/cars/detail/?car=1E18023

Just guessing, but I think the "drop down instrument" is the "gauge & switch" panel centrally on the dashboard. You can "drop" this by undoing the 2 screws on the top 2 corners of the panel. The original color of the car can then be seen on the bulkhead.

I think it is red, if you see the paint under the screw...JD-JAG66 wrote:Just guessing, but I think the "drop down instrument" is the "gauge & switch" panel centrally on the dashboard.
