#1 Series II power steering
Posted: Sun Jan 14, 2018 5:16 pm
Hi all, can anyone kindly advise how the PAS pump is installed to a series II E-type FHC? I cannot find any information or pictures on the complete PAS installation for a series II (especially how the pump is installed) in any manuals including the Jaguar WSM. The PAS hoses and steering rack (which I have overhauled) are listed but the pump and reservoir appear to be a mystery. Could someone kindly shed some light on this conundrum? PS. The PAS rack was installed when I bought the car as a rolling project but the pump and reservoir were in the "parts" package! Regards Mick W

Hi Mick, is the rack you have orriginal to the car or is it an aftermarket one, possibly Vicaridge?
If the latter it will show obvious signs of having bits sawn/ground off.
I have bought, but not yet used, a Vicaridge one so have the instructions and could send you details and photos of how they mount the pump they use. This is a modern one used on many cars and easily available on eBay.
It mounts on a modified left hand engine mount and uses a separate reservoir.
If I can help then pm me. I am near Bridport if you want to see it.
Why am I fitting power steering? Because I wanted to fit a smaller steering wheel, fatter tyres and my wife has delusions of thinking she’s going to drive the car. Regards Michael.

Hi Michael, thanks for the reply. The PSA (including the rack) is original to the car (I understand that PIR suffix to the serial No identifies indicates this), I would therefore, like to keep it original. We have discovered a part No (no picture) for the alternator/PAS pump bracket but this appears to be obsolete. It may be worth popping over to the heritage centre to see of they have any info or a series II with PAS installed. I am located in Downham Market East Anglia.

You could browse the pictures on xkedata.com
The search page http://www.xkedata.com/cars/?e=2
will allow you to enter Series 2 / LHD/RHD and anything else specific you would like to narrow it down to. Then it is a case of looking for the cars with chassis numbers starting with P1R
This car for example shows the PS reservoir
