Hi Chris...just moved your post to add you as a new member.....

I have just acquired a Series II soft top which is running ok but could do with a respray next winter. I am a bit concerned about security although it is kept in my garage at home in the UK. I was wondering if a steering or gear lever lock would be a good idea? I could get a tracker but this means that they will already have my car!

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Chris

Hi Chris...welcom to the forum......if someone wants it then unfortunatly it will get put on a trailer and towed away...however you can make things difficult.....any type of locking device is usefull...you already should have a steering lock which if applied when the wheels are on full lock makes it more difficult to tow.......hidden switches on the ignition/fuel pump are usefull....and a removable steering wheel is worth looking at....by far the most important is good agreed value insurance....Steve

It would make it difficult to drive away....but it would do nothing to stop it being winched onto a flat bed and driven away...

A wheel clamp will stop it being moved.....a pain to carry but I use it if away over night in a hotel car park...

Well, yes but if they're really determined then it will be up on a spectacle lift and away. Denver boot, clutch claw, blaring alarm and all.

Evil little b****ards that they are. :police:

True but car lifts are not all that common and need the truck to get next to the car which might be tricky in a hotel car park...although as you say if they are that determined....a clamp does at least mean it can't be quietly pushed out of the car park onto the street and away....good agreed valuation insurance and a tracker helps....

:yeahthat:

Although, when you've put all you've got into your pride and joy over years of restoration there really is no compensation.
