#1 Hi all, new member

Post by Tom W » Mon May 07, 2018 7:25 am

Hello everyone. I think it’s tine I finally joined the forum and introduced myself, rather than just reading all the useful info as a guest. I’ve owned my E-type for 5 years now. It’s a series 2 FHC. There’s plenty of work to do on it, but it is on the road. I do all the work on it myself, the info on here has proven invaluable in helping me fix things.

Hi Tom,
Welcome to the forum. I’m rebuilding a ‘63 FHC at the present, but I had a 1970 FHC 22 years ago. A quick and very useable classic car. Mine was Sable with Cinnamon leather.
I have found the forum invaluable to my restoration as I’m trying to do as much as I can myself.

Got any pics?

Mine was originally sable, with a cinnamon interior too. It’s been blue ever since I’ve had it. It’s had at least 2 cheap re-sprays in the US before coming here. Roundels were added 5 years ago for a trip to Le Mans and have stayed put ever since. The paint comes off if I try and peel them off. Up coming jobs, bar ongoing maintenance, is to swap the 3.54 diff for a 2.88, and to replace the PAS with manual steering. I have some poly rack mounts to fit in an attempt to introduce some more feel into the steering first.

Hi Tom,
I’ve seen that car a few times I think - lhd with Weber’s? That looks like Oundle Wharf.
My engine is currently sitting with The Splined Hub waiting for me to finish the build so Oliver and his team can fit it and the gearbox. I had a red Healey 3000 for a couple of years before getting the E-Type - Opalescent Golden Sand done by Tom and the boys at Nene Valley.

Yes, that’s the one. The photo was taken at the drive it day event at Oundle warf.

I know Oliver and his team well, I must have seen your car or engine in there at some point. The respray looks very smart.

Hi Tom and welcome. I have the impression lots of Es got cheap resprays during their lives. Mine started silver grey, resprayed (not very well) to sable in the 70s, then again (extremely badly) to blue in the 90s.
I see you are fitting poly rack mounts. I did the same following many recommendations here. I can't give an assessment yet as I have so far driven the car only one foot forward and one foot backwards, extremely slowly and in a straight line, with no steering wheel...

Similar to Jeremy, I’ve put poly rack mounts on too, but not having been able to drive it with the standard versions I may not appreciate any benefits!
