I'm new here....Elliott
#1 I'm new here....Elliott
I have had a 69 'E' for about 1 month. Its been sitting for a while so fighting small problems here and there. I still have a TR6 of which I am trying to sell. I am just finding out where to go for parts and places to do things on it that I cannot do. Right now the alternator is out for new bearings and so I hope to have a quieter running motor. I've already recieved help with sticky brakes. Thanks. Elliott

Hi Elliott,
Welcome from me too - you will get nothing but help and advice here. It’s a wonderful source of material and advice.
One thought from me. Are you sure it’s the Alternator bearings? I was convinced with exactly the same noisy front end and your theory. Stripped the front end off this winter for rad re-core and general tidy up and realised the belt tensioner bearing was completely worn out.
New one fitted from SNGB and she is a different car.
Just a thought.
Cheers
Ash

Hi Ash,
Just saw you post as I didn't look through this section. Yes I had the alternator bearings replaced and it fixed the noise but the alternator didn't work properly. A long story is I bought a Bosch copy from Ebay and it never worked no mater how I wired it. After 2 months I took it to a British mechanic he determined it was defective, has a Lucas replacement for only $15 more $130 and it works perfect. I still have a low level growl that does not go away if you idle the engine. So I an thinking wheel bearings. Their cheap and I found a restoration garage that will help with almost anything. He is doing a frame-off rest of a Series 1 FHC. His 2 garages are full on 20s and up American cars like Packards, V12 Lincolns, and so on.
Any way my alternator problem is solved for now and I can drive it.
I'm still a member of the Triumph Club so I will participate in their functions for a while.
I'm in N. Calif. 50miles south of SF.
Let me know about your car.
