#1 Roadster or Coupe

Hi All - first post here!
I've always loved the roadster over the coupe but as I approach my mid-50's I've suddenly realised I've been wrong over all those years. I now much prefer the look of the coupe to the point I'm about to buy a series 1 (1964). Have I gone mad?

Absolutely not - the coupe is by far the best looking (and practical!)

It has to be the coupe! Best looking car there is...also much more civilised than the OTS....Image

Go with what you are happy with - not what you think others like.

For me it is the Series 3 Roadster and has always been - however a nice Series 1 Coupe with wider wheels also tickles my fancy.

We are all different - go with what tickles your fancy.

:yeahthat:
I think that you have already answered you own question, it's all about personal preference and most owners will usually prefer their own version whether it be an OTS or a FHC.
I also happen to agree with you
but as a committed FHC owner I can assure you that you are not mad as you seem to suggest

I was originally going for a roadster, but then worked out:
Half the time it's raining, so hood up (and it leaks)
Of the remaining 50% of time, half of that it's too cold so as above
Of the remaining 25%, half of that you're on motorways where it's too noisy and windy
Of the remaining 12.5%, it's too sunny and you cook despite your E Type cap

So I got a coupe.

Real reason is that my wife wouldn't let me get an OTS because it would mess her hair up.

FHC, much nicer shape and more room for luggage and stuff.

OTS with a hardtop fitted is a great looking car.

My FHC used to get very hot inside in warm weather - that`s why I opted for the OTS this time :salute:

Living in the UK, hot weather is rarely an issue!
Coupe every time for me.

Less hot in a 2+2, more air volume

One of each?

OTS for high days, coupe for holidays.....

And a 2+2 for a daily driver.

Has to OTS...

...you can always more clothing.

...take it to Switzerland and wear a set of tyres out in a week...OTS is the only way to go!

I always fancied a FHC but ended up buying an OTS. The S1 is such a hot car inside (even with Dynamat insulation) o/a modest cool airflow and heatsoak you find yourself normally end up opening the window which means you've got outside noise coming in anyway. From spring to autumn (i.e. normal classic car motoring weather here in the UK), I have the hood down on most occasions I take the car out. Fantastic visibility, wind in the hair etc etc. If it is cold, just wear gloves and a hat and have the heater on full blast with the footwell heater flaps open.

Coupe is definitely the most beautiful...that’s my first choice...that rear slope is achingly beautiful
However ..I then found an early ‘62 UK RHD OTS and thought...what’s better than a coupe?
Answer...a coupe and an OTS
I’m a very lucky fella

Coupe. I only ever wanted a fhc e type after my Dad had his Bosses car for weekend when I was very young .I think that most cars look better as coupe,Mercedes 300SL is good example.
