#1 New member but not new E owner in Leics England

Post by Andyp_67E » Sat May 30, 2020 8:13 pm

After many years reading posts for help and advice i have decided to take the plunge and sign up. I have a 1967 4.2 dhc owned for nearly 20 years.
Purchased completely restored and has been relatively trouble free with no body work issues (to date). Making use of the lockdown to do some upgrades an long overdue jobs.

Hi and welcome.
Get some pics uploaded when you get the chance.
I’m near Stamford, Have always enjoyed driving my various classic cars along the a47 towards Leicester and explore the back roads leading off it - some great roads and views around there.

Hi and welcome Andy! By DHC, I assume you mean an OTS? Jaguar never had a DHC E type. Just words I know, but it's what the E fraternity use.

Yes sorry OTS which is what my signature should state.
If interested my car is detailed on the XKE data page at
http://www.xkedata.com/cars/detail/?car=1E1817

I have traced the history of my car using a copy of the old green log book and copies of microfiches of owner change details obtained from the DVLA.
Although issued with a Shrewsbury registration?? it was despatched to and sold by Attwoods in Wolverhampton where it stayed going through 7 owners in the area, some of which I have been in touch with and heard many interesting stories. Before an owner from Lancashire bought it in the late 80s as a basket case and started an unsuccessful restoration.
Sold to XK engineering in 1991 and sold on to the previous owner who spent 9 years undoung the earlier work and completely restoring it. Before I bought it from him in 2001.

Hi Andy

Great looking car, the S1 4.2 OTS has always been my favourite.

Not too far away from you in Derbyshire, my friend Richard Eaton and I run the Derbyshire region of the E-type Club and in a normal world, we probably manage 2 or 3 meetings a year with ca. 20 cars now. You'd be more than welcome to join us if you fancied a run out. We have members come from all over - South Yorkshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire, etc. A former Forum member used to drive up from Corby for our events too. Will let you know when we can get something arranged when the world is no longer upside down!

Cheers

Welcome Andy

My 1970 FHC S2 is also an Attwoods Wolverhampton car.

My mother purchased it as the second owner in 1973 and it’s been in the family ever since. A slightly easier history to trace! 😉

Good to see you’ve finally joined. As you know through following the site a very knowledgable and friendly bunch.

Cheers

As part of my history file I have been trying to find photos of the Wolverhampton Attwoods jaguar dealership in the late 60s on the internet But have not been able to find anything. There is a street scene showing the vauxhall dealership at the junction of raglan street and st marks rd, but not sure if jaguars were also sold from here.
Anybody got any photos?
It is amazing that all the owners I contacted up until 86 when it was in a sorry state had no photos of the car. Even the wife of the first owner who remembered runs from Wolverhampton to Salcombe, Devon in under 3 hours (pre motorway) before he traded it in for a Lotus Cortina and regretted it. He had no photos of the Etype he bought new when he wad only 24years old!
Different times.
