Dear Friends,
Thank you Admin for inclusion to this very informative E-Type forum. Angus Moss introduced this forum to me during a visit to his garage in August this year.
I am a previous E-Type owner (1980’s) and recently acquired 860005, a beautiful opalescent dark blue S1 FHC.
I’m based in Welwyn, Hertfordshire, so Moss Jaguar will be taking care of 860005 whilst in my possession.
Looking forward to meeting some of you in the future, although 860005 will only be driven locally and on dry days.
Regards, Paul

Paul, welcome to the best place for all things E Type. And having known Angus for several years I'm confident you'll be very happy with him and his team.

You can add your name and car type(s) to your signature by clicking on your user name top right. Tell us more about your cars and persuade Angus to arrange better weather next year than he did for this year's open day then others will get a chance to admire your car.

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for the signature tip which I’ve taken on board.
We have day cars but this is my only classic so far having blown the budget on 860005!
It’s provenance is well documented on XKEData. I’ll be adding to it as time goes by.
I went to Angus’s open day too. I had intended bringing 860005, but as you know the heavens opened that day.
I took the car to Moss Jaguar the following Friday and spent quite some time with Angus going through the documents that came with the car.
Angus will have 860005 through October if anyone is interested in having a look see.
Regards, Paul

Hi Malcolm,
Thanks and funnily enough I barely fit in 860005!
Slowly trying to shed weight so I don't look a complete fool squeezing in and exploding out!

I'd do a straight swap for it with my 2+2 which would give you more room!

Hi Steve,
I think my wires are 15”.
Also, I didn’t get the spare set of wires which I think were 16” with Dunlops fitted ☹️

Malcolm, your offer is almost too good to resist!
I think I’ll persevere with my 2 step’s forward 1 step back weight loss plan 😆

Hi Julian,
Thanks for making contact.
We moved to this area 6 months ago having lived in Hertford for the past 22 years.
Would be good to meet up with others in the local area at some point, although the weather is closing in and I guess most E's will be tucked up in bed for winter.

No! We can have lovely driving weather in the winter, you just keep an eye out for recent salting of the roads or it being washed away.

Whilst I can see the pleasure in owning a car that will never be used in the manner originally intended (driven hard and fast and then sold when something faster comes along) it is not something I would do. I prefer my card to be used. I have a daily driver, plus a S2000 and the E both of which do about 4000 each and every year. And as some listers will know I'm about to add to that small list a 38 year old Bentley, if I can get it running and MOT'd. The three non daily drivers will be driven as summer daily drivers and occasional winter drivers, in all weathers as long as there is no salt in the roads. And I will maintain them all.

It takes a deep pocket to take a 100 point significantly important early car, and commit to reducing those 100 points, rather than wrap the thing in air conditioned luxury in a personal car museum, to be brought out only for high profile events. I tip my hat to the OP, and I hope the car is taken out regularly, shown at events, and driven to the shops or out for Sunday lunch.

This car, which was Lofty England's personal car, was registered in 1961 . I think you must have picked up a misprint somewhere , Steve :?:

Hi Christopher..Lofty.s car was 1600RW......this car 1600HP from xke data
Chassis 5 was completed on Thursday, August 24th, 1961 and initially invoiced to UK championship motor cycle racer, John Surtees who was coming to the end of his second full season racing a Cooper T53 in Formula One. At the last minute the order was switched and chassis 5 was instead invoiced new to Jaguar Cars New York and flown three weeks later on Monday, September, 18th, 1961 to New York City where the car was delivered to the president of Jaguar Cars North America via Alfred Momo the New York Jaguar Distributor
Jaguar Cars New York retained chassis 5 untitled and un-registered for unknown internal use until 1967.

It was not until 1967 that chassis 5 was sold to the first private owner as essentially still a new car and then issued for the first time a new title and registration documents
