Hi everyone,
I have been using this forum as a source of information since starting our journey with our series one E-Type.
Especially the "FACTORY FIT" section. Great community and plenty of knowledge sitting here, thanks a million.
I restore classic cars in Cape Town, South Africa. I have had the privilege of working on various rare cars over the years. Some like: 1976 Ferrari 308 Dino GT4, Lamborghini Espada S2, Jensen Interceptor SP, Lamborghini Urraco P300, multiple Lotus Esprit's (S1, S2 and S3) and too many more to mention
I thought it might be time to introduce myself and maybe share some of the journey, as well as get some input from you all as I go along restoring this 1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 DHC.
Here she is in all her neglected glory when I received her:
She was bought at an auction by my client and shipped to South Africa to get restored. Sadly the previous owner had her stored in a container, which had a leaking roof. Can you guess what side was leaking?
The restoration started last year. I have documented every step. Taking stop motion of nearly every part of it.
The car is currently completely stripped and body repairs have commenced. I am waiting on a big shipment of parts from the UK and will begin mechanical restoration as soon as they arrive.
I will create a thread when I get the time. Thought I would first say hi

Hi and welcome. What do you mean by DHC? Is that a roadsters with a hard top, or a fixed head (FHC)?

Welcome to the Forum and we would love to see you document your restoration. The car is an OTS with the optional hardtop from what I can see.

Hi,
@Allrand, Heuer is correct.
I am actually afrikaans, english is my second language.
Martin Robey gives you two options when searching for parts. "Drop Top Coupe" and "Fixed Head Coupe".
I realize the correct term is actually OTS. Sorry for that.
OTS — Open Two Seater (Convertible body style found on a Jaguar).
DHC — Drop Head Coupe (Convertible body style found on a Jaguar that has a higher back where the convertible top drops into the car).
See, I have already learned something

Yes, I think the term DHC was used in reference to the XK's, and earlier, which had more luxurious interiors than the regular OTS's. I don't think it was ever used in reference to E-types. All the best with the resoration.

I loved that car, when I have seen it in RMO Youtube footage of the Amelia Island Bonham's auction.

Who would have thought it would end up in SA.
Let me know where you are, so I can come round to say hello next time.
Send me an Email to:

All the good luck and patience with that beauty.
