Hello All you Jag Fans
#1 Hello All you Jag Fans
Hi from sunny Derbyshire, I've joined this site as I'm going to help my friend search for info to enable us to restore a 2+2 that hes just inherited. Its been in a garage for the last 25 years but the engine used to be started every week untill his father got sick about 3 years ago and unfortunately since then its just not seen the light untill last weekend. My pals father was a bit of a hoarder so we have quite a bit of stuff to move from around the car before we can get it pushed out of the garage and have a closer look. His father bought the car when it was 10 months old so he's the second owner and we believe its only got 40,000 mls on the clock. We will obviously be looking through the posts on the forum but if anyone has any useful do's and dont's to help us on our way we would appreciate any and all advice. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a great find so take your time in re-commissioning it. Remove the spark plugs and turn the engine by hand to see if there is any resistance - worth putting a shot of oil in each cylinder before doing so. If everything is free check fluid levels and go ahead and try starting her. E-Type's do not respond well to being left standing so expect a fair amount of work to get the car roadworthy - total brake rebuild, clutch hydraulics, new tyres, fuel pump, fuel tank if it was left empty and carbs fouled with fuel residue. Lots of help here especially for the 2+2 and a great fun project, but do not be daunted - they are fairly simple cars to work on.

#3 Thanks
Hi David,
Thanks very much for the advice its very welcome and we hope to have the car out of the garage this coming weekend. From the limited view of what we can see of it theres a one off rust hole in the bonnet, bit of rust on a couple of the wheelarches but it doesn't really look that bad. The interior is in good condition witth no visible rips and carpets look ok just a little bit dusty. We're just hoping that the underneath chassis etc is not too bad then we'll probally look at what we might be able to do and what we'll have to get done professionally. By the way its white and the reg is GUP4H must have looked brilliant when it was new.

You are well located for specialist help: Derek Watson in Great Longstone, SNG and CMC in Bridgenorth, Hutson's in Leeds, M&C Wilkinson in Doncaster. Take plenty of pictures and post them as everyone here loves this sort of find. Good luck!

Hi Paul,
Welcome to our every growing family.... which is for ever growing with people from all over the world.
Like David says sounds like you have a good find.
Im sure we'd all be interested in your journey the highs and lows in the restoration. Maybe you start a thread in the Owners Gallery and upload some pics at each of your stages.
I beleve it is also being done by someone else at the moment.
Anyway I look forward to reading more about the E and your problems you come across and how you overcome them.
Regards
Clive
PS There is a thread that tells you how to upload pics if you dont already know...
