Hi everybody,
I just purchased an S1 FHC 3.8 of 1964 at an auction sale in France, a dream from my youth. :D Actually I had already purchased an XJ8 2004 earlier this year and jumped on that unexpected opportunity to grab an S1 XKE in good condition at an affordable price.
It's originally a Californian car, coming to France 25 years ago and owned since then by the same PO. The car looks nice though needing cleaning and some (limited) restoration. Engine was already fully refurbished in 1992.
I intend to put the car in good condition, respecting its origins as far as possible. I also wish to become an active participant to this forum.

Good to know another chap with an E-Type here in Brussels.
I'll be happy to share with you my experience when the diva's landed.
Btw, I'll will have her inspected by J.D. Service, a Jag independent in Evere, before passing the "controle technique". Would you know them?
Also are you member of a club or Jag association in Belgium and what insurance did you get for your oldtimer?

Not familiar with JD, and no membership for any Jag club/association in Belgium (although have made an attempt with JDC but it was not encouraging...).
As for the insurance I am covered by Vivium for all the cars of the house, quite serious and efficient. Let me know by pm if you need more specific details.
Good luck receiving your beauty and keep us posted with hopefully some nice pics.

I will consider Vivium (btw already my insurance company and am very satisfied, but they don't insure specifically for oldtimers).
Incidentally, what is the usual practice of E-Typers regarding oldtimer registration or standard? I'm still hesitating, oldtimer means cheaper insurance and less technical controls but more constrained driving.
I have put my car on XKE Data (number 889725) and also on the Zeemaps.com world map of E Types (have noticed that you already did: are you Flemish or expatriate like me?). Will try to enrich the pics.
Also will keep on posting when the beauty's here.

I have 2 oldtimers insured with them at quite favourable terms, the courtier I use is involved with oldtimers as well and has most probably a special arrangement. I can let you have his references if you wish.
With the new rules for registered oldtimers (licence plate staring with "O") there are hardly any limitations left and you can freely enjoy the usage. Quite different from what is used to be 2 years back.
Ashamed to admit that I have not put my car on XKE Data, should really take some time to do it soon. As for the zeemaps, not aware of my location on this or who and when could have pinned my car there!

I am an expat living in Brussels for the last 13 years. I own a TR6 and a Triumph Stag and I am hoping to make the leap up to an XKE sometime soon (probably a FHC).
I have the 6 on the O plates as Ralph is right, the limitations have been relaxed and there is no need for an annual controle technique (although I get my cars checked at least twice a year). I have the Stag on UK plates but it will be re-registered at some point this year. I think the driving is unconstrained and you are unlikely to be stopped (most police don't care and I regularly get admiring comments from the police who come up to the cars). Both cars are insured by Vivium (I think the best for classics no) and through Pascal Quirynen in Antwerp.
I do know another chap in Brussels with a beautiful series 1 OTS (amongst other things). I doubt he is on this forum, but I can mention it to him.
Happy to meet up for a drive in the Spring sunshine if you are ever about. Also very happy to learn more about the XKE, ownership, etc.

Hi paydase, and welcome to the forum. I am very new myself, and am still waiting to collect my car! I am due to go to North Yorkshire this Sunday to pick it up. It is a white series 2 2+2. I was due to collect it last weekend, but they confirmed the clutch was worn so are replacing it (at their expense) before I collect. I can't wait 'til Sunday! This will be my first e type. I've wanted one since being driven in a brand new coupe back in about 1964!

Thx for your kind messages.
Vivium seems definitely a good tip already provided by Ralph that I have to explore here. My car is still under check-up by my Indy in Brussels. I have also to complete the import formalities before going to the Controle Technique and ask for an O plate, hope it will be soon, I'm keen to drive the car at last!
I'm also making steps to get a suitable garage to allow me starting the car cleaning and renovation.
Hope the few of us interested we can arrange a drive in the Brussels neighbourhoods on a sunny day in Spring!

You should get your car registered at the JDC, 70euro/year and then get insured at MARCH Classic cars - you will pay 125euoro for your first classic and 25 for each additional one.

I am a bit late but nevertheless a warm welcome to the forum and etype ownership. I am a fellow Belgian living in Antwerp area but working in Brussels : )
I have O plates and I am insured with Marsh, very happy about both.
If ever you need a good mechanic, i know a very good one in Kraainem who maintains mine ( for those things i cannot or dare not handling). Let me know if you need more info.

For the time being my E is still for check-up at the Jaguar-Daimler Service independent garage in Evere, but good to know there is an alternative at Kraainem, in case.
Thx also for the tip on Marsh. I have not yet made steps to insure the car, waiting to pass the Controle Technique.

Hi everybody,
Digging out my introductory thread to announce that finally I could get back my E-Type from the garage to drive it after it was registered.
The technical check-up took more time than previously anticipated due to required changes of the rear struts, then repair of the braking system, and full dismantling/cleaning and repairing of the carbs, fuel lines and tank due to internal corrosion by water.
But that was not enough! There was an incredible bureaucratic approach of the Belgian "Controle Technique". Technically speaking the car was Ok from the first run. But they made a mess with the registration number because, on the French registration document, the car number was preceded by J64, for Jaguar 1964. They requested four successive visits before clearance, wanting to have a new number stamped(!), asking the French administration to re-issue a new document, then requesting new certificates (by the customs, by Jaguar Belgium, then Jaguar UK) to finally let it go for registration. A typical abuse of power IMHO...
At the end, I could drive and bring it back to the garage. A real discovery. I was very surprised by the "unfriendly" behaviour of the Moss box. Certainly I have to learn how to use it, finding the correct way for the various gears and double declutching. But what a marvellous engine!
Now will start the time of cleaning and restoration, albeit limitedly and progressively as I wish to enjoy driving the car and not let it become only a restoration hobby.
To start with, I will have to secure the electrical wirings (seem quite "used") and check the various hoses to avoid any unwanted failure.
Within one year, probably a paint and a refurbishment of the internal trim. At this stage I don't plan to engage in a heavy restoration as luckyly the body seems to be exempt from rust.

Hi,
Recently (very recently) bought an S3 OTS and, although engine should be ok, rather want to be sure everything is ok. Motto 'prevention is better than cure'. I was wondering if one can go to a "current" Jaguar dealer, or better check with specialists for the V12.
Would there be any lists on the internet with workshops, especially in Belgium?

Probably not many around.
I personally use to go to an independent in Brussels who takes care of my S1 and also of my X350 whenever necessary.
I am very satisfied of his skills and experience. Up to 20 Jags (E-Types, XJS, S-Types, etc. and even a couple of Rolls) are usualy waiting there for works.
I can provide you with his address if you so wish.
