Building a Realm C type

Hi Malcolm....XJ6 is used as a doner car for engine/ suspension /diff/brakes etc...chassis is tubular from Realm and body glass fibre....lots of options for making it to your own spec....note on this one the carbs have been converted to throttle bodies and its a fuel injected 4.2...Steve

Oh yes......considering that only 53 real ones were built and would cost £5m+ to purchase then a replica is the only way to go for most who want one......you could build for under £30k completed....Steve

Does it have a tonneau for when it's left in the rain? Or is that sacrilege?

Hi Malcolm....is what sacrilege useing it in the rain or fitting a tonneau Its up to you...in the 1st photo studs are fitted for a tonneau....but as a self build you can have it as you want.....Steve

Yeah, meant is it sacrilege to have it out in the rain! I love tonneaus; used to drive my TR4 in snow and ice with the roof off, with a 3/4 tonneau done up and heater on full in the footwells.
What about a hood? Or do you get wet when it rains?

How much would such a self - build cost in the end ? It might be an alternative to the Cobra I thought about doing after my E-Type. There‘s a Citroen DS in the line as well, but then, maybe...

Hi Tony.....no it will not get a Q plate.....It wil get a plate related to the age of the doner car......this is done by useing a kit of parts from a manufacturer (chassis etc) to build useing major parts from the doner vehicle (engine etc)...will be registeted with dvla under a kit converted vehicle..... if you just build your own chassis and use various parts then its a kit car and then yes a Q.........after completing the build it then needs to have an IVA test.....like an all day mot to check the build.....then it can be registered..........i can then put an ageless plate on..

Seen from that angle, the C type has to be one of the most handsome Jaguars built . I still regret not having built a Jim Marland C type in the early 90s, having been distracted by an E type ! The Marland cars ( Proteus in its original guise ) were beautifully made

Steve, good new not having it as a Q plate as this would ruin it. I thought it was based on a new space frame chassis. Look forward to the rebuild and final result.

Hi All..havent updated this thread for a long time...life and other cars got in the way... the build of the C type is done and just had its IVA test pre dvla registration....the car has to be "comply" for the test...hence exhaust, wheel arches, head restraints etc......unfortunatly it failed....only thing out of my control ....speedo calibration....so fitting a programable unit to set on their rollers at the retest....good thing is at retest they will only check the speedo...so hopefully retest soon..then paint....Steve
