Don't want to put you off but my daughter had the cooper s version and they apparently have a Peugeot engine in them (so the garage told her). At about 50 k the cam belt tensioner went and basically ruined the top end. It cost 2.3 k to fix. Apparently this is a know fault so it's you do get it make sure the cam belt tensioner is ok. Having said all that the car went like poo poo of a shovel.

Minis from that Era use the Tritec engine, not the Peugeot unit. We briefly had one for my wife and it was great, ours was not a Cooper and was Auto. The Auto boxes did have a bit of a bad reputation but we had no issues. I want the car back! We sold it because she needed a bigger car for work purposes.

friend of mine has a BMW mini cooper. It probably had a replacement screen at some point that was poorly fitted....but water gently leaked into the passenger footwell and got into an electronic module that monitors the lights for failures so all of a sudden it kept reporting failed brake lights and indicators when they were fine....BMW fixed the issue by re-fitting the glass and replacing the dodgy module but it wasn't a cheap fix

My daughter had one - great car, apart from the run flat tyres! Forever losing air, and must have changed them all a few times over with low miles. Trouble is, you can't "mix" run flats with normal when one goes; but it would have been a lot cheaper if when the first one went, she changed all 4 tyres for normal ones.
