#1 Hawthorne around Le mans
Not sure if we have had this before, but well worth another look to remind us how dangerous this was

One of my all time favourites, and immortalises Desmond Titterington.

I rather liked the knotted handkerchief on the mechanic's head. Sartorial elegance at it's best. Though better than a baseball cap on backwards.

Incredible that they are driving a Le Mans car around the track whilst cyclist and cars and trucks are playing around. Can you imagine a single racing driver doing that today?

No need to imagine, this happened last year. One of the petrol stations in this clip was in Salisbury. It caused a stir at the time.Herzeg wrote:Incredible that they are driving a Le Mans car around the track whilst cyclist and cars and trucks are playing around. They used barbed wire for a safety fence!!!!....some lovely commentary from, I think, Raymond Baxter, at one point.

The bit where you see Duncan Pittaway swinging the "beast" was in fact the first time it had run for 100 years ! It is an amazing feat to have brought this back to life
On the original subject, this copy of the Hawthorn film seems to me to be of much better quality than the earlier ones I have seen. I love the bit where the fellow on the bike who is about to ride across the road, thinks better of it

It is an awesome beast. It is huge. It thunders. It incinerates hats and small children. It's the kind of device that creates its own weather patterns. Aliens out in space will detect it bending gravity and use its signature to determine there is intelligent life on earth.cactusman wrote:I was being optimistic Be handy to have an account with BP though. In this year's Members Meeting there was nothing quite like it. You may gather it made a considerable impact.

This is so awesome! They look like bullets running backwards, fired to venture! Very Very Very cool! My dad's gonna love when he sees this.
