..end of June to Adelaide (having relatives there), then in a 4x4 via coober and uluru, kings canyon to Alice, flyover to Sydney, stay 2 days, flyover to Brisbane, take over campervan (hopefully not damper van ), then drive to Cairns, stay a week for diving, 2 days to Daintree, fly back home on 3.8.

Hate to tell you, Carsten, but if you're going to Oz in June-August, you're going in the winter.

Yes and an Aussie winter is better than a European summer.

You only travel to the centre in winter - we had an 33 yo American die last week west of Alice Springs walking in the desert in the middle of summer - silly idea. Tourists in particular do not realise how dangerous country can be in summer - many deserts are closed.

Winter in the centre is high season, likewise up the NE coast in winter is high season as summer is the rainy season and not a lot of fun. On the east coast that time of year, the main horror for locals are tourists in camper vans - normally german backpackers rolling their vans on the beaches.

be scared - very scared - they are nasty suckers that go straight for the throat when they drop on you.

Enjoy your trip - yes we drive on the correct side of the road - oops just realised you are German - so you will fit the tourist stereotype - german driving a camper on the wrong side of the road - what can go wrong .

I heard you can fight the drop bears with the fluid that is filled into the headlights of you car („headlight fluid“), and maybe use an optical axle as well .

We can only go in exactly this time frame because of Felix‘ school holidays. At the moment it is 4 degrees C in the shed, I still do some metal works on the nose of my E, so I am used to that.

Am really looking forward for the trip.

Be careful down there, Carsten. We don't want you dropping off the edge. I wonder if Simon S-Y has adjusted to the constant rush of blood to the head he must get, given that he's an expat?

The constant rush of blood to the head is counteracted by regular doses of V12 Jaguar Power. All paid for at Aussie petrol prices.

Have to keep the sun-roof closed in the rain forest to counteract the Drop-Bear attacks, otherwise fantastic.

I'm jealous Carsten. I haven't been to Oz in 20 years and all that time I've been looking for an excuse to go back.

I have warm memories of the aroma of swollen kangaroo corpses decaying on the roadside in the heat.

I really miss Melbourne.

.... how long can you actually eat roadkill, btw ? Seems to be a nice and clever way to save some travel budget, most roadkill comes for free (if you did not run it over yourself, that is...).

Roadkill is best consumed fresh. So if you didn't squash it yourself you shouldn't partake.

Australia I studied in Melbourne, love this place, but was happy to leave back yo family and friends. One day I will be back

I lived in Melbourne for 2 years. Loved it.

Lived in Elwood, worked in South Yarra, spent weekends in Belgrave. Great times.

I need to go back soon.

Hey guys,

We‘re in the middle of it - after 5 days of Jetlag and meeting Susanne‘s family in Adelaide, we went through the outback by car, tried the giant Burgers at Erldunda for example, and are now in Sydney. Did the harbor tour, Opera house, and Manly beach.

Tomorrow we‘ll have a look at the Powerhouse museum, then we‘ll go for some whale watching, and finally get up on the tower.

On tuesday we‘ll leave for Brisbane by plane.

I'm jealous on one hand, because Australia seems like a beautiful place that I would love to visit some day. But on the other hand... what about all the spiders, and other weird creatures that this place is full of? How safe is it in like rural areas outside of the cities and big towns?

I have not found any problems yet, no spiders no snakes. Been to Fraser Island yesterday, no worries, all fine. Seen a Dingo on the beach, he was interested in our bag pack which we left behind, but shy, so off he went when approached him.

There are 25 million Aussies here, so if they can cope, so can you!

The animals are fine. It's the people you need to watch out for. Especially when they encounter a whinging pom!

Oh most of them are very friendly. Way more then in germany. Just came back from Aldi this morning, the cashier was a nice guy, talking a bit- if you can get a permission to live here, maybe when we‘re all old farts, do so. My wife said she would, and that means a lot.

Plus it seems that, compared to our society, houses are not that expensive, goven I have an Exchange ratio of 2/3 to my advantage.
