#1 Continuation D Types

Post by Series1 Stu » Fri Feb 09, 2018 10:10 am

Jaguar are unveiling the continuation D Types this weekend but the story leaves me confused.

Back in the fifties, they supposedly intended to build 100 cars but only built 75 before withdrawing from motor sport. They then decided to use the remaining bodies to build road cars called XKSS and managed to build 16 before the Browns Lane fire of 1957.

Last year they built the "missing" 9 XKSS's, and that's the 100 quota reached. So how can they suddenly build another 25 cars, claiming they are the missing ones? What do they do for chassis numbers?

Surely not another cynical marketing campaign trading on heritage and nostalgia?

Hi Stuart from what iv picked up from the JDC replica face book site.....worth joining if you intetested ..free..Jaguar coded D chassis by year......XKD 501 for 1955.....XKD601 for 1956......so the possibility of 100 per year.....i think in 1955 they made 75 cars....so 25 numbers unused....in 1956 only 6 cars built so 94 unused numbers.....they also produced in 1954 ...5 i think....so another 95 unused numbers... But hey its Jaguar they can do what they like.....to be honest they are just building tool room copies that has been done by many small manufacturers over the years......these cars could be used on the road becaus they were called replicas....dont think Jaguar will call theres replicas so cant be used on the road....
