Hi Guys

i find myself facing the prospect of having to build a website for a new business venture and am looking for advice on the best means of approach, short of handing large sums of money over to a tech savvy 12 year old!

There are lots of online website building robots but are they all much the same or are there subtle and valuable differences? Also, what about website and email hosting?

I need to make a start soon so any advice welcomed.

In Germany, you would make use of one of the big providers, like 1&1 or strato.

They do offer packages, and even a design approach where you can choose pictures, colour and so on, then their content management system builds your site. Mail and FTP space and even databases are included.

Not expensive, say 30 E per month gives you a decent set of features.

Wix are quite good, they give templates you can use and modify as required. IIRC, it's possible to do for free.

I use goDaddy for all my hosting/domains etc, there web site builder is easy to use but probably most important when you get stuck and need help the people manning the help lines are fab.

I built and maintain mine using iPage. Wouldn't say they are any better or any worse than any of the others. I find it simple enough to get on with but not as many features as I would like.

It looks like they may have file / capaciity limitations, therefore customer history files could be limited etc ?

Not sure about that Mike. I have to remove some history’s due to loading speed as my site is really heavy on photos. Another clean up due soon but l still retain all the photos.

That's a real shame, as the history files on all the cars you & the team have worked on make great reading and reference info for further work as needed

I used GoDaddy as well for a website I ran. I know NOTHING about IT, which is why I thought they were quite good! All I know is it worked well, and I never had issues. Seemed cheap, and they did answer the phone when needed.

It is Mike but I intend going through the ones that we have removed and pick out the best ones. There were some really good ones with yours!
