Many years ago I was friendly with a motorcyclist who owned a motorcycle shop in Glastonbury. His circle of friends included John Haynes and one of many enthusiasts who worked for John as a copywriter. Through these connections I ended up buying a motorbike that had been used for one of the Haynes manuals. This would have been in the mid 1970s. It came with a free manual, and the certain knowledge that I could tell precisely what the engine and gearbox looked like inside. Last time I checked it was still taxed tested and insured.
If you are ever driving along the A303 (Somerset/Wiltshire border) and have a half day to kill, the Haynes museum is well worth a visit. Knocks all others into a cocked hat. The Schlumph museum may have a Bugatti room, and a room with some of Alain Prost’s racecars, but Haynes has a red room. Guess what kinds of cars get painted red most often. Yup, fast ones.

It is a great museum and well worth a visit. Last time I was there was last autumn. Parked in the car park among hum drum eurocrates was a stunning and freshly restored silver grey DB5...just sitting there ....no sign of James Bond or the current owner though
