Today I mostly spent time getting the DOS based billing program for the workshop to work in a DOS emulator under Windows 10.

This was prompted by the untimely death of the Lexmark dot matrix printer that has shamefully died after only 18 years of service. The PC running Windows 98 is still going strong..

What’s wrong with a sturdy Kalamazoo system? None of that new-fangled elastic trickery required.

Who remembers the “ Monroe” mechanical calculator?
I recall we argued in the office as to who had the right to use it! Before that it was all pencil and long hand multiplication.

Was this a very complex drum device made Switzerland ? I recall one where you had to set all sorts of tabs and levers corresponding with one multiplier, and then rotate the handle a certain number of times for each unit, ten, hundred etc for the other mutiplier , and eventually it would give you the answer to about 27 decimal places!

Yup, that’s it.
In the days when I was in life assurance we used it to calculate rates based on age and other factors. Really an A3 spreadsheet originally worked out by hand. Would take an instant to do today using excel.

I did my brake master cylinder on my series 2 a few weeks ago.

I must say, it was a pleasure to work on compared to my new stuff.

The hardest part was bleeding the system- namely the rear farthest caliper. I let gravity do a lot of it.

Washed it since it has been a week since I last used it due to the stay at home order, it has been covered in dust. I have also tried using a Carista Bluetooth adapter https://bestobd2scanners.com/carista-ob ... d-android/ to customize my car. This is easy to use because you don’t need to connect a cable in order to detect why the check engine light as it is a Bluetooth adapter. Simply download the Carista app and start diagnosing and customizing your car.
