Inspection Lights

Hi chaps.

My long suffering fluorescent inspection lights are about done for. One is so dim as it's useless and the other has yellowed severely.

So I am presented with an opportunity to get something really good and was wondering if any of you guys could make some recommendations.

I replaced my 5ft fluorescent tubes with 5ft long LED units. Nice and bright, no delay to start (in fact the starter has to be removed) and only 11 watts each. The LED tubes fit the old fittings. Not sure if this helps.

Hi Stuart.....got one of these Sealey 10+3 led lamps.....best one iv ever had.....also has an led on the very top end....the bottom section pulles out to act as a swivel and is magnetic......and there in a magnet on the rear....charge lasts really well........you can get it from other suppliers but make sure its this model as there are quite a few similar ones but not with the same led,s.....Steve https://www.mccormicktools.co.uk/catalo ... gKi5_D_BwE

I have given up on hand held lights and now use a headband with LED lights attached . This has the great advantage that you can set it so that it illuminates what you are looking at ( without having to aim it ) with a very brilliant white light . Mine is rechargeable from a USB port, lasts me several hours without recharging, and can be used by hand to get into inaccessible places where a tube type would not fit.

Wherever possible I also use a headlight but a handheld is certainly useful to have. When you buy an LED lamp make sure to get one that uses the latest technology - COB (chip on board) - as they are brighter, longer lasting have a wider viewing angle and use less power: https://www.digikey.co.uk/en/articles/t ... d-cob-leds

They are readily available and no more expensive than the old technology as they are cheaper to produce.

I also have a rechargeable LED head torch, which is brilliant but sometimes you need to illuminate something from above when working under or from below when working over.

I like the look of what Steve has suggested.

I will be replacing the fluorescent lights in the garage with some kind of LED lamps and I didn't know that you could get LED replacements so I will check these out too. I'll probably install some low level lighting too as overhead lights just get blocked by raised bonnets etc.

Lots to look into but I really need to get some work done on the car.

Before going to the expense of led I fitted Tri Phosphor tubes , the difference is noticeable .
