Cornish Brie was excellent partnered with a méthode champenoise sparkling rose produced at a vineyard a couple of miles from me in Lambley. My mate started planting vines ten years ago as a bit of fun and now gets 7,500 bottles a year for friends and family. At the end of a day's shooting we have done blind tasting against several quality Champagne's and it has bested them all!

Nyetimber classic cuvée is another favourite.

A few years back a villager planted up a small field, about 400 yards from where I live with vines. He has been hawking the product on this venture for the last two years. It doesn’t travel well.

Did you know that sparkling wine was probably invented in England, not the Champagne region in France?
When sparkling wine was first reported as being consumed, the French couldn't produce thick enough glass for their bottles to contain the pressure - that thicker and strengthened glass was introduced by England. A French Monk, Dom Perignon, in 1697, claimed the Champagne method for France. However, the English had been drinking sparkling wine for many years previously.
The French hate that story. I first heard it in a fabulous book called "100 ways to annoy the French"

Ironically Tattinger [ the French] are coming to England to produce grapes for their sparkling wine , apparently the vine growing conditions in Kent are superior to their own , 400,000 bottles of sparkling wine [ edit - bottled on site], tariffs eh !----cheers

Does it come with a subscription for a new liver? I thought I had a drinking problem but 7,500 bottles for friends and family puts my exploits into the shade
