This reminds me of the stuff I saw stored in backyards during a train trip from southern California to Seattle. Mostly I saw old VW Beetles, various American iron from all periods, and the one odd lot filled with old Borgwards. Since the areas through which railroads travel tend to have cheap land, the backyards are large and it was always amazing to see how somebody would amass a collection of the same make and model. I attributed this to some sort of survivalist instinct that makes some folks realize that finding parts for a Borgward after a nuclear calamity might be a problem.
In 33 hours of train travel, I only saw one E-type--a nice Series Two FHC parked in the corner of a large lot. Obviously, I was looking for the missing Ferrari GTO or unaccounted-for D-Type, but no such luck.
