This is one I went up in at Goodwood earlier this year. They let me take lots of pictures of my car with it.
Two iconic British machines!!
Paul. 1962 Series 1 roadster 850543
1965 mk 1 Lotus Cortina
1973 Triumph Stag (had it since 1982)

Lovely picture with car and spit.
I used to own a plane and hopefully will again soon, although nothing that glamorous! I always questioned why exhausts couldn't be silenced to avoid our fun upsetting everyone living under us. Modern Rotax engines I believe are silenced and are much quieter but the big old USA flat fours that power most light planes are bloody noisy. Put on a silencer and a three blade prop to reduce tip speeds and you become more neighbour friendly.
Might cost money but stops you being banned.

John, the Spits gained some jet thrust from their exhaust design, maybe only a few MPH but in combat that could make a difference.
As for modern aeroplanes with the heavy lumps, yes they are noisy, but the significant cost of certification puts off most owners from considering silencers, plus the weight and balance effect doesn't help the case.
A system that would cost under £500 for a car would be ten or twenty times that price on an aeroplane,
Geoff
PS, want to make an offer to buy my aeroplane?
