Have just dug out a set of hardly-used S2 front seat covers to sell and am amazed to note the sides and back are leather. I have another brand new Unipart set sold to me for very little by a guy in my last UK village, who was a Unipart senior manager and flagged me down when he saw me in my OTS.
The Unipart (i.e. Leyland era) covers have leather only on the seat facings and vinyl on the sides and back, which is what I’d expect for a 4.2, especially by Series 2.
Who does seats in full leather other than by special request?
Who makes full leather (zero vinyl anywhere) seat covers?

Thanks Alan. I could potentially phone every supplier, but was really asking if any h user of any supplier (especially known original cars) had ever seen a full leather seat cover on 4.2 style or S3 front seats? I’m selling them so it’s mainly for any buyer’s info.
As it happens I want to reach Gary Bartlett about some D-type bits, so I may try OSJI, thanks.

1) Has anyone ever seen original Jaguar non-3.8 seat covers made with no vinyl at all?
2) Has anyone ever bought replacement (i.e. nob original) seat covers that turned out to be all- leather?

Peter,
I don’t know if this will be of any help, but some original 1.5 covers I bought in error were all leather; well the sides were but the back of the backrest was vinyl.
A Series one backrest I obtained also had leather sides.
As for replacements, there is an article in Jaguar world from Dec 2017 and MCT (Chris Turley ?) is fitting covers to Jim Patten’s 4.2 Series One and they appear to be all leather apart from the Moquette backs.

Thanks Paul. They must be custom made then because not even the back is moquette or vinyl. The back is both the least visible/least important area of the seat yet in this case is the most expensive. There are no seams or assembly from smaller pieces - just a large unblemished sheet of thick hide - not flimsy sheep or goat leather.
Reminds me of the time I took the back seat out of my first Daimler. The centre armrest folded down out of the seat back and left a large rectangular recess. At the back of this quite deep recess, almost completely out of sight was a bit of matching trim. When the backrest came out you could see it was about a square foot of Connolly's top-grade Daimler hide stapled over the hole. Always felt good driving that car.

MCT is Mick Turley with his son Chris. Mick used to be the other half of Suffolk and Turley before setting up on his own. Mick will make any combination of materials for seats or other interior trim parts. They also will trim your car to concours standard. They are about to trim a set of MX5 seats for me.
