#1 FHC Sliding Catches on Hinged Extension Board
Hi
It appears that the balls and springs from my sliding catches (BD9395) have gone astray at the chrome platers. Can anybody give me any guidance on the ball diameter and spring length please?
It seems a shame to have to buy complete assemblies, especially since the new chrome is pristine.
Regards

Thank you Tadek!
I was about to start experimenting - beginning with cutting balls out of ball point pen refills.
Your information is a big help to get me going. Do you think the balls are chrome plated brass? I don't think it matters other than for correctness because the catches aren't likely to get a lot of use.

And 3.1mm is probably actually 1/8".

This forum continues to astonish me with depth of knowledge that members jointly have and are willing to share alongside the generosity of those willing to part with items.
Long May it be so.

Hi Jonathan
Catches arrived on Friday, thank you.
I soaked them in penetrating oil to free them off and got them apart easily enough.
The balls are indeed 1/8" diameter as measured with my Imperial micrometer.
The springs are both different. One is 3.5 coils with one flat end and the other is just 2 coils with open ends. I have no reason to think they've ever been taken apart before now.
My luggage extension board is now complete thanks.
