#1 648 CYV - The Avengers E-Type

Post by Heuer » Sat Jun 27, 2009 11:27 am

This was another post that was lost a few months ago thanks to a spammer.

648 CYV was an S1 3.8 used in an episode of The Avengers - 'Dead Man's Treasure'.

Car is chassis # 850218, last offered for sale by Christie's in 2004 and sold for ?37,600. Had the provenance been known it would have certainly commanded a premium!

Wonder if the current owner knows what he has?

Thanks for that, David. I can't remember if it were commented on last time round but the car has elements of the 4.2 about it - the centre dash, the boot logo - and did 3.8s have arm rests :?

Harry

By the time it was used in The Avengers it seems to have been a 'bitza' car in terms of parts, as you point out. To quote from Christie's sale:

"The JDHT production record trace certificate informs us the car was originally supplied with Carmen red coachwork a matching red interior and a black soft top. Delivered by Henlys of London on 30th October 1961, the fortunate first owner was a G. C. Cussens of Enfield, Middlesex. The car offered for sale, was the subject of a ground up re-build at the hands of a renowned company between 1989 and early 1991, having been supplied in basket case condition by their client. A well presented photographic record of the restoration is also in the history file depicting the story of how a sorry amalgamation of parts was turned back into the stunning motor car that Browns Lane staff themselves would have been proud of."

I reckon it was crashed and someone took the opportunity to 'update' it with 4.2 parts (seats, centre console, dash, boot badge etc) to make it more saleable.
