Longest owned ... just a bit fun

Bought my first FHC for £700 in 1975 when I was 22. It was as rotten as a pear at 8 years old.

Sold it to help with house purchase.

Picked up some redundancy cash 20 years ago and purchased my current car, now nearly retired and looking for an OTS.

The question is how long you have had your vehicle or longest continuous ownership - not when you first bought one so you old fellas who bought one in the 60s and sold it on, that does not count

I bought mine at the end of 82 and I still have it - it doesn't work - the engine does though - but I still have it.

So 35 years of continuous ownership though I often wonder whether I should have bought the Dino 246GT Targa that I looked at, at the time.

Garry - not sure that was the precise question? anyway great thread! bought my 1963 3.8 DHC in opalescent silver blue reg 677 FYP. Bought it in April 1978 from Hills Classic car Sales in Leytonstone. So that makes it 41 years. The missing part of the story is that I sold it in 1987 to capitalise my business, the sad thing is in the end I did not need to, but the happy part is that the memories and joy of those years means it is with me always and I call that continuous!!!!

Not an E, but my dad bought a mk3 sky blue Spitfire, 6 months old in 1968. I was born in 1970 and was sold to my mum’s dad. He kept it for years and when he got too old to get in it, he gave it back to my mum. They had the body restored and had 110k miles on it. In 2002 it was then given to my sister to make way for my dad’s purchase of his E v12. My sister still has the Spirfire and used during the summer.

I bought my first E-type in 1967 but it didn't last long; I wrote it off after 6 months but then it wasn't worth much in the first place. The current one and I have just passed 125,000 miles together, and we are shortly approaching 37 years together. I know of a chap in the USA who has passed 150,000 miles, and I have often wondered what the highest mileage is.

I drove my 1970 (built 1969) E home Aug 15th, 1975 and have owned it since then. It is now in the process of being completely restored. I have a target of driving it home again Aug 2020 for a 45th-year celebration of my relationship with the car.
