#1 European tour.

Post by malcolm » Fri Sep 08, 2017 8:31 am

So, just another 13 days and I'm off in the E on a European tour organised by the JDC. We're going to Dunkirk, Mons, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Colmar, Sochaux, troyes, Reims, Gueux and Laon.
During the tour, we're visiting a fort on the Maginot line, Haut Koenigsbourg castle, The French national motor museum, the French national railway museum and the Peugeot museum (probably quite a lot of Peugeots there!) We're doing a river boat trip, a champagne tasting tour and will be lining up the cars on the start/finish line of the old GP circuit at Gueux.
The cost, including all the trips/visits, 9 nights B&B, 3 evening dinners and ferry crossings is £725 p.p
Pretty good deal I reckon! Not staying in glamorous hotels, but it makes the tour do-able for members with not such large incomes as others.
I'll post some pics when we're back.

Enjoy the tour, Malcolm.

Have you got all the necessary spares and accessories? Don't forget the breath tests.

Regards
Stuart

If you're going down to Colmar, presumably you'll be doing a few Passes in the Vosges mountains. That will be fun.

Breathalyser not required in France now, or at least you won't be fined for not having one. Watch out for the Police, lots of traps now in France as they raised 1.3 billion Euros last year on fines so are quite keen on the money raising possibilities. Also obey all Stop signs by coming to a complete halt even in villages - they wait around the corner to get you.

Thanks for all the tips! I've got all the necessaries I think, and will be careful about the Gendarmes. There are 20 cars going, so should be fun.

I've done several JDC tours, mostly E-Type Register organised. They've always been huge fun, loads of characters, the occasional unreliable car, and some great roads.

I enjoy E Type register tours with loads of Es together, but it's also quite nice being in a mixed bunch (as with this tour) where you get everything from Mk 9's (and earlier) to modern XKRs

Fabulous plan, Malcolm. I was in Colmar and Strasbourg around a month ago. The former in particular is very quaint. Some fabulous restaurants around too

A few years ago a group of us went to the opening 'event' of the early phase of Reims circuit restoration.

The only problem I hit was expecting to fill the S3's boot rack with 2-3 cases of champagne before leaving for the Chunnel. All would have gone well if it hadn't been a Sunday. We left the capital of the Champagne region empty-handed because the shops were all shut.
