Post by mgcjag » Tue Oct 10, 2017 9:12 am

Hi All.....As regular members are aware many topics are becoming long and drawn out and drifting way off topic...Please remember it takes 2 to make a thread long winded......so can i please ask everyone to stay on topic....dont get dragged into these point scoring discussions.......Thanks... Steve

I have asked Steve and Angus to consider using the Delete post they have at their disposal. It is quite friendly in that the post is soft deleted from the thread, gives a reason, says who did it and also allows users to display the deleted post if they want to. This should keep threads tight without decrying the poster for their thoughts, albeit maybe unnecessary thoughts. Looks like this:

Speaking as a mod on another forum... It's a lot less time consuming if listers just take a moment to look at their post before they hit reply, and evaluate if they're answering the original question, asking a point of clarification (a new question belongs in another thread), if their tone is commensurate with being a gentleman who drives a Jaguar etc, etc.

Moderating a forum takes time and effort. It's unpaid and mostly thankless.

Not wanting to contribute to thread drift but if I could be so bold as to step into this thread accompanied by the "Hall of Fame" of forum moderators and go on the record to say "Thank You All"
:thankyouyellow:

Uh oh! What have I done now? (Apart from ten years Admin on various J-L forums?)

Nope, there are many of us who wish listers who contribute to this forum will continue to use netiquette: decorum, moderation, focus, inquiry, information, humour, respect. And E-Type Jaguars.
