#1 Brilliant trick to improve one's Forum Experience !

Post by rfs1957 » Tue Oct 10, 2017 5:12 pm

Anyone wishing to no longer visualise posts that they feel are

1. likely to lie outside their spheres of interest, and / or

2. likely to lie beyond their credibility threshold

could use a useful little device that can be accessed through the top RHS button where ones own "Name" is shown.

Using this enables one to no longer see the contributions from such and such a poster, and I can confirm it works perfectly.

However it's not immediately obvious how it works, especially right at the end, so "à toutes fins utiles" here is the tweak :

1. In via a click on your "Name", top RHS.
2. Click on "User Control Panel".

3. Click on RH tab marked "Friends and Foes".
4. Click on "Manage Foes".

5. Click on "Find a Member".
6. Type in the "Username" you no longer want to read posts from, then Click on "Search".

7. Tick on the "box" next to the identity you're aiming to suppress.
8. Click on the "Select" word that is just below the tick - this is the tricky step I couldn't grasp.

9. You should now see the "Name" you no longer wish to read in the box to the RHS.
10. You click on "Submit" to the lower right edge, and then "Yes" to confirm this is your wish.

And that's it.

PS : You can probably just type in their "Name" without using the "Search" if you're absolutely certain of the spelling and the case, say, of just a simple 4-letter word.

Rory, guessing that with this feature the pages turning lighter will even load much faster. :swerve:

Peace and serenity has returned.
That one person has been so divisive is a shame on an overwhelmingly otherwise friendly, helpful and generously given advice forum.

Completely agree Geoff, thankfully Rory's tip now provides a means to continue to enjoy the forum twaddle free.

With the Christmas season almost upon us, where everyone has more time to expound their own pet theories on Forums, it seemed an opportune moment to float this reminder regarding My-Hot-Tip to waste less of your own time reading them.

Rory, I can't imagine what made you write this
I feel a few other threads should be locked as soon as someone posts a response to save a lot of people the frustration of responding then getting their advice thrown back in their faces

Many thanks Rory - having loved this forum since joining last year I had started to lose interest due to a specific frustrating contributor.

As others have said; peace and harmony restored.

Merry Christmas all.

I finally succumbed. Got fed up with the stubborn refusal to accept that they could possibly be wrong and their determination to make simple things all complicated (borrowed from The Who).

I just worry that someone might take some notice of them.
