#1 Registering with DVLA
Hi all - still a fair way off with my project but I’d like to get the ball rolling with getting it registered for UK road. From memory having done a LHD Healey in the past I needed the following:
Nova auth codes to prove import taxes paid
V55/5 form
Heritage certificate (has to be original, learned that the hard way)
Owners club verification letter
Has that also been people’s experiences? If anyone can suggest someone to help with the owners club letter that’d be ace
Cheers, Robert

Good shout. Although 1966 car makes me exempt now? Not sure. Although MOT probably good to do anyway to check brake balance etc

Thanks Steve - very helpful link. Seems pretty much as expected. Not 100% on whether a owners club letter is needed or not, I have a heritage certificate so perhaps that will do. 3 days was a bloody good turn around in that case, my other car took 6 weeks!

Hi Robert ,
I've just done all this and to be honest all advise you have had is spot on,Kieth Vincent did a great letter fast and you must have an mot of course but if you read my post when I was asking the same question in the Technical section of the forum ( Importing V55/5 Reg document pic)
Ifound this answer from Lester very helpful on how to fill in the V55form
I found this info below very helpful. it's from the Hot rod association website.
it tells you what to place in each box. any not mentioned leave blank.
2 - Historic.
3 - 12 months.
4 - £55.
6 - The make of vehicle, eg: Ford, Chevrolet, etc.
7 - The model of vehicle, eg: Model A, Model 40, 3100, Bel Air, etc.
8 - Bodystyle, eg: coupe, sedan, sports, etc.
9 - 2 axle rigid.
10 - The colour of your vehicle.
18 - The number of places there are to sit.
27 - Year of manufacture as noted on the dating letter supplied by the owners club.
When you come back to the top of the page, there are a couple of boxes without numbers. One is the country the vehicle came from, the other is a lhd/rhd selection. Be sure to fill these in.
29 - Date for tax to start, usually the first of the month, either the current month or the following one.
30 - Fuel type, petrol, diesel, etc.
31 - Chassis number, again as confirmed on the dating letter.
32 - Engine number, don’t worry if you don’t have one, it’s not essential. If it’s there it must be included.
33 - Engine size in cc’s. The DVLA do like the figure to be accurate, not rounded up or down.
45 - if the title only shows a year, put it as 01/01/year, otherwise put the date in full.
46 - same date as box 29.
Turn the page…
49 - Name and address.
50 - Date of birth.
51 - Write “Exempt due to age”.
55 - Optional, but it won’t hurt to put the mileage.
Then the declaration at the bottom, which needs to be signed and dated.
The DVLA are currently charging £55 to process an application. When sending in the documentation you will also need to include insurance, which is set up on the chassis number, as well as proof of address and ID as noted on the V55/5. If the car is pre-1960 no MOT is required. If the car is recently imported, you will need to complete a NOVA declaration, which should be done at the time of import. If it has been imported but kicking about for a while, you will need proof of duty paid in the shape of a C&E389 if commercially imported, or a C&E386 for a private import. This needs to be presented to Customs & Excise so they can get the car onto the NOVA system before submitting an application to the DVLA
I had my registration number in 3 working days from DVLA !!!! Good luck with yours
Grant

Grant - thankyou very much indeed for the detailed reply, I will follow this (not expecting to break your 3 day record) but one can try!
I suppose what this means is that I will probably have to wait until I have progressed more on the restoration (paint) before sending anything off. I won’t have that crucial MOT until that’s done
Robert

Hi Robert
I can't claim the credit for the detail as I copied and pasted most of it straight from replies to me when I asked the same questions! :-).
but the filling in the form I found really handy.
Good Luck with it ,
hope to see you on the road next spring.
Grant.

Thanks Grant. Yes indeed, the only thing stopping that happening is paint or the DVLA! I emailed JEC to try to get in touch with Keith but no luck as yet, did you get in touch through the club?
Cheers, Robert

Hi all
Slightly off topic but i was curious about having to state LHD/RHD. When I had my car converted I checked the V% and it doesn't state anyware that the car was LHD. Not it's not I have informed my insurer but couldn't see anywhere on the V5 where you need to inform DVLA. Have I missed somthing

Evening all !
Re MOT.
Some confusion! Taking my 66 E in for minor works and 'MOT' on 27/10. My mechanic didnt think I needed one now,I thought this is the case as of May 2018,but when I tried to 'retax' with DVLA (zero rated I know) automated system said I couldn't as no MOT for the car (oversight at garage on previous visit) !!!
Aargh !! Clarification please !
Many thanks as always
Neil.

Hi Neil...you are correct re march 2018....i think where the problem lies is that you need one full month left to run on the mot to get you road tax (exempt tax).... we are going off topic here so just post a new question if needed Steve

Sorry if I offended on series 1 vs series 1.5 and 66 vs 67. The only point I was making is if the suffix is important to you then persist with the DVLA.
I can confirm the registration rules apply to the specific time. D was August 66 To 31 Dec 66. This was unusually short and then E went Jan1 to July31 I think it then went August to July for many years.
Cheers

I'm afraid the information above is incorrect . D was the whole of 1966 . E was 1.1.67 - 31.7.67 . F and the following years were full years from 1 August to 31 July
