#1 Costs of running a Classic. Sorta OT

A little before I sold my previous classic, a Dolomite Sprint I’d owned for 20years, and bought my current E, my Dad bought himself a car he’d lusted over for many years, a very fast Bentley (‘86 Turbo R). In the 17 years since then he’s driven it less than 1,700 Miles, mostly just to get it to the MOT station each year. Each MOT costs him thousands. Last year’s cost £4,400, due to lower ball joints, perished rubber boots on drive shafts, various leaking hoses and brake lines.

This year he wants to sell it. Dad, I said, it isn’t worth anything. Maybe £5k at the most. But before you sell it it needs a new MOT. And before that you need to cure the leaking hydraulics and the leaking petrol lines. He looked at me aghast. Maybe I should drive it straight to the tip.

Yes Dad, maybe you should.

This, BTW, was one of Dad’s better ‘investments’.

Apparently there's a very good vaue indie near Cheltenham, not a million miles for you?. My friend drives his 92 down there every year from Leicester for its service/MOT.
