#1 Non-eared Spinners

Post by Simon P » Fri Apr 20, 2018 3:39 pm

Would anyone happen to know if the S2 non-eared spinners and the non-eared 'Continental' spinners fitted to certain earlier export models are one and the same?

No, the S1 German/Swiss spec spinners C14891/C14982 where like the normal ones with the ears cut off:

They also had a special tool C14927:

The S2 supplied to US/Canada/later RHD cars had C28685/C28686 spinners and required the special tool C28687.

Grazie! That's kinda what I thought, but (unless I'm reading it wrong) the SNGB website seems to list them as the three-lobed C28684/C28685 throughout.

They do so because the lopped off ear spinners and tool are no longer produced. But those spinners are 'wrong' on the S1 cars supplied to Germany/Switzerland. If you want to replicate them you need to buy eared spinners and hacksaw the ears off. You still have the problem finding the tool of course!

Two different versions. Germany/Switzerland Are two ear. America is three lobe (ear). Two different tools for removal.

So although both earless, one is without two ears and the other is without three ears?

Yes and no.

There is also a time factor associated with it.

My understanding: From early on there have been only the two eared spinners with or without cut off ears.
I think in 67/68 the cut off three eared spinners have been first introduced. By then the two eared cut off spinners vanished.

On 885123 originally delivered to Switzerland has still got the cut off two eared spinners
