Well after one rejection because the 1 was printed as a I on the NOVA , but a phone call to HMRC and all was easily sorted . Annnd today it arrived wooohoo ...... and the diligent and pedantic DVLA have given it a G reg , when being built in September 69 should be an H :banghead: did make me chuckle

Well done Darren.

On balance this system is quicker than the old system where you had to book an appointment and turn up with your car at the local DVLA office. Did that a few times.

Now all we have to to is invent a racing history for it, enter it into the next "posh" auction and sell it for £150,000. And delete this thread of course.

" and the diligent and pedantic DVLA have given it a G reg , when being built in September 69 should be an H"

Being a Yank, I plead ignorance. What is a "G" and an "H" registration? I'm inferring that the G is the more desirable.

Hi Mark . In the UK since 1963 we have been using letters (in the beginning ) at the end of the number plate to signify it's year of build . And for the 1st 4 and a bit years it started at the beginning of the year, So 1963 was A reg ,64 B reg ( with me so far ) then in 1966 they made the change over point the 1st of August. This ment D only ran for 7 months the E straddle 66 -67 ( still with me ?? ) as did F 67-68 And so on .
Now my car being September 69 would of been H which ran from August 69 to July 70 but I'm guessing the DVLA ( our vehicle licensing organisation ) have seen it as being a 69 car and given it the Letter G that would of been "on the go " at the beginning of 69 ..... hope that makes sence ish ..... and them being pedantic with my application I found it ironic that they were a bit slap dash with what letter it really should have
Now irony .......

Hi Herbie. no they all have to be original ... NO COPIES !! And the original use Title is kept by DVLA, and I believe returned to America as it goes , so take a good copy of it if you want it to stay in your cars history file ,

Darren : to be even more pedantic, you are one year out in your change date from January to August. That took place on 1st August 1967 when the F plate was introduced , the E having run from 1.1.67 to 31.7.67

It's also worth pointing out to Mark how deeply a car's registration letter is embedded in the psyche of any car nut over here in the UK because of the way it instantly positions the car in time.... When I was a kid most cars over 5 years old - particularly anything from British Leyland, Vauxhall, or Italy - were living on borrowed time as the rust settled in and bits started falling off. A recent reg letter conferred certain bragging rights at school. I remember wishing my father had chosen the G reg when deciding between two secondhand Triumph 2000s (he opted for the F reg as it had lower mileage, didn't help, the gearbox disintegrated a year later).

Thanks for the explanations on the letter registrations. I guess that it makes sense. I went out for a nice run in my E yesterday and stopped at the grocery for a few items before heading home. When I walked back to the car, the lady (60ish) who had been in front of me in the checkout line saw me walking to my car and, like so often happens, asked me what year it was. I told her it was a '67. Since mine was built in March, I guess that would have made it an "E" registration in the UK. Maybe I should have told her it was an E reg E Type?
