Like many others have said, you have my sincerest sympathy for your dreadful experience.
I for one would be very greatful for any list of items to pass on to any future engine builder.
Mine has just gone away to be rebuilt. Totally trust the company, but of course want to make sure they are totally on top of the brief. They are race engine builders whom I have used in the past, but want to be sure to that any XK specifics are spelled out. I realise your experiences have little to do with the specific engine and more to do with the title of your post...but I hope you get my drift.
1969 series 2, 2+2... going for a full rebuild.. Gulp...
