#1 First aid kit

Post by ralphr1780 » Thu Sep 13, 2018 1:42 pm

Has anyone seen such a first aid kit before?
In Belgium it has been compulsory to have a first aid kit in the car since decades, and dealers used to supply these with every new car, lodged in the glovebox.

That brings back memories of my great uncle's Red Mk II:).

By the time I knew him, he was a retired Air Commodore who had served in both WW1 and 2. He'd do hump back bridges at full speed even in his eighties.

He had something like this under the passenger seat:

to go with the RAF and RAC badges on the front grille.

He cared for his machines - maintained to schedule and spec with impeccable records (I remember him drumming into me pre-drive checks and periodic maintenance)- and I doubt that he would have removed a Jaguar spec item from the car to replace it, unless for a very good reason.

Which is a long-winded way of saying that I believe he added it later.

I suspect that UK-spec cars had no regulatory requirement for a first aid kit, and the famously penny-pinching Sir William Lyons would not have provided "unnecessary" kit.

Jaguar did provide an RAC membership application with each Owners handbook which I think included an advert for the RAC First Aid kit.. All home market cars were also supplied with a 2" x 14" RAC branded 'Running In' sticker, unsurprising since Sir William was an RAC honorary 'Life' member. These stickers are very rare because if they were used they would be destroyed when removed. Many owners probably thought it was a personal affront to use the sticker and discarded them immediately!
