Hi all,
A german parts supplier made me an offer for a set of 4 rims for my S1. I asked for chromed rims, no silver paint, but also not the very expensive full stainless ones.
I asked for XW455 MWS in 15x5, to keep the car as it came in 1966. I am not sure which tyres I will buy, I feel that Michelin XWS will be too expensive, Pirelli maybe, so my guess at the moment is the Vredestein.
They ask 1260 Euros for a set of four rims, plus freight but thats it. VAT included.
At SNG I found about 360 Euros each, multiply by four, means about 1400 plus freight in total.
So, should I buy them at 1260 / set ?
Then, one final point - if I would take 15x5.5 or 15x6, would I be able to find cheaper tyres ?

I have bought a couple of sets from SC Parts/Limora who I assume you're talking about. They always seem to be the cheapest for wheels and they are very cheap on freight.

Well, it seems this ist not the case this time - this rim is 396 Euros list price at SC and at the moment 360 E at SNG, so SNG is a tad cheaper if you would not get a rebate, then multiply by 4. That is if I did not made a mistake in my research....!
I think I‘ll ask at SNG as well. I am a very happy customer of theirs for about ten years now.
Seems SC (their german branch at least) is running a campaign like „offer us what you are willing to pay for an item, and if its fair you get it for that. So I made a 1200ish offer for a set

I once ordered wheels off SC Parts. they took all the money and then ordered the wheels off MWS who were out of stock . I dont do business like that so I cancelled the order and waited until it could be fulfilled by MWS direct. They were cheaper than MWS even though they were MWS wheels.
SNG do not , to my recent knowledge , supply MWS wheels but Dayton which are a US wheel. For a long while Dayton did not manufacture the Curly hub, so incorrect for the pre Series 2 cars. The may have now remedied that.
I recently bought a set of SS curly 6 inch wheels from MWS and they are a thing of great beauty.

Carsten, are you a member of the E Type club or Jaguar Driver's Club? If so, you get a 5% discount from SNG. Worth considering if you buy a lot of stuff - one big purchase like wheels could pay for membership. Then you get all the nice mags for free!

HI Carsten yes they are MWS wheels it says so on the SNG page....you will also get a good discount direct with MWS if you are a Jaguar club member....but you have to ask for it....I got 10% off 4 wheels recently.....Steve

I got my MWS wheels from Watjag a few years ago. They were cheaper than buying direct from MWS thanks to the volume that Watjag took from them.
I think that, at the time, they would never use Dayton wheels on any of their restoration work. I don't know whether that changed or not.

My favorite MWS wheel is the 6.5 inch 5721.
It is center laced and pushes the wheels out onto the corners to give the car "wider shoulders".
It is a little bit more expensive but well worth it I think.

Which tyres do you run on them ? 205 ? Would you say steering is heavy ? I have the standard rack in my S1, no power steering. And its a 2+2 so its a tad heavier.

Hi Carsten,
I went for the 15 x 5.5J MWS competition centre laced wheels with standard tyres just stretched a little wider and lower, I have no powered steering and the usual slightly smaller Mota-Lita steering wheel.
Handling is good, ride is compliant, wheels are stronger and it just widens the look with improved stance,
then you can choose whichever standard tyres you prefer on the best deal

I run the 15x5 MWS wheels, with Vredstein 205 tyres. Very happy with the whole setup.

Yes, 205/70 R15. and bump stops in place. While not a factor for many people, I have experienced very low wear with these tyres.

I just checked german law.
They say to run 205s it is MUST to have at least 6“. In 5.0 and 5.5 its simply forbidden, so if I would be caught, they‘d put the car stationery / game over, you need a trailer, son.
So - I think 6.5 may be a bit too wide ? But I cannot find MWS 15x6, does someone have a part number (like MWS 455 or 474?).
I checked my bank account, enough cash to burn, so....

I was told by Limora to have a look at

This is 15x6 with an offset of 6.35 mm. They say these fit. They also have them in 3.2 mm offset and 8 mm offset.
Which is „correct“ ? I cannot return them once bought...
