#1 Fuel filter rubber seal failure
Hi All,
I carried out an engine oil & filter & fuel filter change in December, in fact on the 16th of December. I then started and ran the engine up to operating temperature checking for leaks. Then switched it off, it has not been run again until tonight. I have been working on the car over the last week fitting a classic fabs long manifold system, taking the opportunity of degreasing/cleaning the engine bay, floor pan and rear suspension while the exhaust was off. It is now gleaming. The reason I spit & polished the underside was because it was covered in a thin coat of black oil film. That’s another story!
I went to start it up tonight, switched the ignition on and waited for fuel to get to the carbs before I turned it over, unusually it didn’t start. I switched off then back on, listening to the pump whirl I could hear heavy dripping. Fuel was being dumped on my garage floor.
The new rubber seal that came with the new fuel filter has been effected by petrol, it has got larger and gone out of shape. I fitted another one from the same supplier that I had but am no confident with it. The failed one has only been in just over 2 months.
Has anyone had a similar problem and can anyone please advise where I can purchase a good quality seal that will not be effected by petrol.
Thank you in advance
Paul

Hi again all,
I am looking at purchasing a new rubber seal for the glass fuel filter. Can anyone recommend a good supplier. Ideally from one of you who has replaced their filter & seal which has been in place for a long while without issues.
Cheers

Me too - just a little bit of care to ensure it’s seated accurately.

Thanks guys, I have just ordered a couple, I have been using Barratts for various parts over the last week, I must admit I am impressed with their service

The fuel filter glass bowl seals along with other parts turned up from Barratts today.
I replaced the seal that I only fitted on Thursday night, it has already grown in size in that short time.
Hopefully the barratt ones will be of better quality!!!!
