#1 Front wing part panel. 62 series 1 e Type convert

Post by Tony » Wed Oct 30, 2019 11:48 am

Does any body know if you can buy the part panel for the front wing as per the blue section on the photo. Ignor the red lines. SC parts do not do them.

Hi Tony,

Monocoque Metalworks do them:

https://monocoque-metalworks.myshopify. ... ies-1-2-lh

Not too difficult to make if you are good with metal.

Tony : I should have a word with Andy Rayner at Hutson's 01484 669052, and ask him to advise , as this is one of the most difficult areas to get right because every individual car is different - even on my new heritage bonnet they had to cut off the bottom wired roll and weld in a fillet to get the depth right

Hi Tony,

As Christopher says, have a word with Andy at Hutsons, that's where I got mine from. They make them in house and you can order it a bit longer so you can trim it to size.
Monocoque make some excellent repair panels and I've also bought from them but if you are just after a couple of bits the carriage and duty can be a bit offputting.

[dropshadow=] pop[/dropshadow]Refresh well underway. The body work generally is very good except for the bottom of the front wing arches were water has managed to get into the rolled bottom edges were they land on the extended cill. New part / repair panels from Hudsons are being welded in on both sides. A few pictures to she progress.

Looking good Tony, can’t wait to see it all built up. Is it just the bodywork you are doing or is there more planned? To be honest your car looked really nice when I last saw you, I hadn’t even noticed the bits on the bonnet.

Hi Simon,

It is just the respray and replacing the bottom section of the front wings. A few oil leaks from the cam covers to sort out but nothing to serious. Should get it back before Christmas.
I am getting or buying a car cacoon to keep any damp out. Any views on cacoons would be appreciated or are they a waste of time,

If you look at the area marked in blue pencil, I believe there should be a hole to take a rubber block attached to the A post door seal, Is this correct as mine has either been filled in or does not exist. Can anyone enlighten me.

Anyone know the answers to my questions regarding the stick on front number plate colour. Ie, White on black or silver on black and if there should be a hole to take the door post rubber as circled in the picture above in blue.

Tony : I don't think there is a correct answer to the number plate . I have seen both silver and white used. The white gives more contrast, and the silver is softer

As far as your door jamb is concerned, I've just been to look at my cars, and the whole area is covered by the door seal which is glued to the screen pillar and then forwards and then round the entire curvature of the bulkhead. It is quite thick at the base of the pillar, to provide a buffer. You are welcome to look at mine - I shall be around most of this week

Hi
Search on the forum there’s stuff on numberplates

I went for white on black

Tippers do the “period” 3.5 inch sized characters cut specially which is perfect

Other companies do a more modern digital style

Really good service from tippersvintageplates.com
I emailed Josh..v helpful

As per previous replies, I went for silver on black from Tippers for my ‘63. They can advise if there are specific specs for your model year.

My shut panels did have triangular ‘indentations’ to allow the ‘blocks’ in the seals to locate. However, I still had to trim the blocks to get a good fit.
