#1 Recommended Chromers

Post by ALAN COCHRANE » Wed Feb 05, 2020 6:48 pm

Hi Everyone

I need to have the nearside rear quarter bumper rechromed. I'm disappointed because it's only about five years since I had all the brightwork rechromed and it's had a fairly easy life since then.

Is Derby Platers still the preferred choice?

Thanks

Alan

ACF Howell in Walsall. Hugely experienced on all Jaguar brightware and suppliers to JLR Classic. Proper triple plating process. Heavy layer of copper, nickel and chrome. But not cheap!

Just got my rear bumpers back from Howells and really pleased with them. They had been done previously by someone else and were rippled along the tops which Howells managed to get out and repaired some small dents.

Rear bumpers and rear overriders £800 which I thought wasn't too bad. I can post pics if you want.

A friend of mine, AltyIan on here had his done by Castle Chrome that Richard mentioned above and those too were really good.

Thanks for the replies.

I've phoned ACF Howells and they quoted £175+VAT for each rear quarter. I've decided to get both done, since there's a risk of one looking much brighter than the other.
8 weel turnaround time should mean they're ready for the start of the season.

I used Marque Restore for spinners and Chromefix for motorcycle parts, both with excellent results. Chromefix posted so that also helped.

Douglas Chroming in Lewisham are absolutely brilliant. Speak to Bishop who is a great guy and let him know I recommended them and you might get a discount.

The key thing is that they priced the whole of my chroming as a job lot which wasn't cheap but when the job was finished they charged what they quoted. Believe me this is unusual in the classic car market. Normally its "we found this" and now its twice as much.

Bishop even rechromed a major part for me which got scratched by the restorer when fitting, for free.

Many thanks
