#1 My Recent Driving Video

Post by JCrosby » Fri May 15, 2020 6:23 pm

Being confined at home for most of the time, I thought this would be a good opportunity to learn how to make a video, something I've never done before, and a little drive in the E Type seemed to be the perfect subject. In Southern California we've been allowed out to get food and groceries and other essential activities (it is now loosening up a bit more). Since pie is considered food and there is no rule that says you can't take a fun car or have to go to the store closest your home, I took the E Type and shot some footage of the little trip, and then packaged into the following short film. I hope you enjoy it a bit.

If you watch, check your YouTube playback options to set it at the highest resolution possible. Sometimes the default seems to be 360p which doesn't look very good.

Great film to cheer us all up, and a lovely car. I don't know what the Tony Brown comment about shutting the boot ( trunk) was all about, , but your way of shutting it was absolutely correct : you are far more likely to damage it with the flat of the hand, than flicking it shut with the fingers

Ah Julian, a place we discovered on one of our US road trips purely by accident.
On our way to Bonneville Speed Week in 2014, (which when we arrived there in Utah had found it was cancelled due to rain !), we decided to go in a roundabout way by exploring the Southern California mountain drives as used by many motor manufacturers for press launches - such as Aston Martin - and what great roads they are.
Turning into Julian, you see the quintessential straight US Main Street, which looks like it hasn’t changed in years. Stopped by the Julian Hotel to see if any rooms and sure enough that was our stop for the night. The hotel is very traditional with real old fashioned fixtures and fittings and the hosts insisted all the guests attend “afternoon tea” where all manner of apple based cakes and items were served - all in the price of the room. A evening stroll to the local restaurant of Carmen’s Place and more apple delights with the Julian hard cider. Naturally, we crossed the road in the morning to pick up some apple pie to take on the road.
A great place and highly recommended. We are presently missing our annual US road trip, but we will be back !
Stay Safe !
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks for the kind comments, Malcolm. I think the oil pressure is OK. The gauge shows about 10psi lower than actual (calibrated with a manual test gauge) and OP runs at least 2x the RPM when hot.

Dave, I'm glad you discovered the little charms of Julian, and stumbling on those types of places is always the best way to find them. Julian is usually swarmed with people on weekends pretty much throughout the year, but during the week in the middle of COVID it is completely empty. The roads in the area are a lot of fun.

Great stuff. Empty roads , beautiful drive too, same in the UK , no traffic is one of the only positives. No tools in the boot! Must be confident in her reliability. Good sound track, wish my radio was as good quality as your is.😀

Great car, great road & pie, what's not to like.
Many thanks for making this just what an E-type is for.
Neal.
