#1 Forum Magazine Article
Hi everyone
Hope you're all doing well in this bizarre upside down world at present
I'm always on the lookout for idea to write about in the E-Type Club magazine and usually have something in the pipeline. Incidentally, the next installment of the model OTS article is due soon as is the story of a long-term family-owned S2 OTS. However, aside from the piece we had on our meeting in Bicester a few years ago, the Forum has not featured heavily in the magazine over the past few years. It would be great to raise the profile of the Forum among the Club too.
Features I would particularly like to highlight would be:
The wealth of technical knowledge and expertise we all share
Highlights of some of our meetings over the years
Sharing stories of restorations, running in and trips on the road
A close relationship with restorers and suppliers alike
"Factory Fit" threads
And above all the general friendly nature
If anyone would love to comment on the Forum in general, the topics listed above or anything else you'd care to add/anecdotes to mention, please reply in this thread or send me a PM and I will mention members (if you would like to be named) and weave it all into an article with some lovely photos.
Cheers
Simon

Hi Simon,
My thoughts for what they're worth:
I cannot imagine how I would have restored my car without this forum. It isn't just the impeccably researched and impossibly deep technical expertise that stands out. There is the intelligent generosity with which members take the time to understand your question and offer up their experiences, unvarnished, for all to see, learn from, and sometimes have a damned good laugh at. No matter what kind of a mess I found myself tangled up in during my resto project, there was always someone who had been there before me and could explain - with a wisecrack or two - how to extricate myself. Pomposity, prickliness, and dodgy advice, when they surface, are handled adroitly and good-naturedly by the management. To David, Angus, & Steve, and the many other E Type nuts on the forum that I have come to know...I owe you, big time.

I would second what Jeremy has said. I’ve been playing with e types for many years and thought my knowledge was fairly strong for an amateur but compared to some on here I’m sadly lacking.
Prompt response to inane questions is always appreciated. Plus sometimes when your seeking an elusive part a chance exists that it will be hidden away in someone’s garage.

Simon,
Of all of the classic car forums I have experienced this is unique. Why?
- there is not a job that has not been done by someone and they are genuinely happy to share
- a forum member will happily take the most ridiculous (and often uncomfortable to access) photograph to help your job along
- you are not judged whether you are a polisher, a racer, an updater or a fanatical originality freak
- the collective experience is immeasurable
- the ‘characters’ make me laugh
- fools are suffered; for a while...
At the risk of sounding a little cliche’d - it really does feel like a community.
Hope to see you in easier times.
Cheers

Hi Simon
Another point is that the forum is worldwide. You can post something in the late evening (like now) and someone in the states will answer, or Oz when they're having breakfast, before you've got up in the morning. It's truly a worldwide community and responses are often as quick as they are knowledgeable.

#10 Re: Forum Magazine Article
I should point out this Forum is, and has been since its inception, affiliated with the E-Type Club hence their logo appears on our banner. The Club advertises the Forum on its web site so the relationship is reciprocal.
J-L has no such affiliation and does not endorse any club, including JCNA. If anyone wants to write an article singing their praises (and there are many) you should write an article and submit it to the E-Type Club editorial team.

Anyone needing proof of the serendipity the Forum brightens our (my) life with might take a glance at post #10 on this string.

I had literally been doing exactly the same thing as Pete, just 15 minutes earlier, on the other side of the globe.
I do hope he'll come up with an answer before tomorrow morning.

Evening all
Some of you may have already noticed, but for those of you who haven't yet picked up your copy of the E-Type magazine, the article is now in print.
Thank you to everyone for your input
P.S : It's not been a bad time for "publications" recently - submitted several articles to the E-Type Club, my Rain-X article has been remastered and appeared in "Jaguar Journal" (thanks to Mr Crespin), and that has now also gained interest from a chemistry magazine for post-16 students.
In the real world (if you can call academia that ) the postdoc in our lab and I have been working on a review article, based on the work I put into my first year lit review in my annual PhD reports. This has now been peer-reviewed, modified and accepted in a well-respected chemistry journal. The proofs have been corrected and the paper is due to appear online within the next few days. One "proper" publication to go alongside the patent with my name on from my time in industry. For those of you who know your "Cs and Hs", I will gladly share the details.
Help, my name is suddenly everywhere!
(If you've wondered why I've been a little quiet recently, there's your answer!)

Thanks, Steve. Hopefully it's another step on the journey to everything. Started at uni 6 years ago now - 4 years since heading out for my year abroad. Scary stuff!
I have said the same thing to most of my family - look at the title, the bio and be content at that, since it may as well be written in Chinese for all they're concerned.
Trust me, there were plenty of time where I did not have a clue either...

Well done Simon. Chemistry I have always found to be very difficult. I left it alone after A levels. I dont know how you do it.
Glad to see you selected a picture of my silver S2 for the magazine (9 WYO). You also selected a picture of me in the same frame, walking towards the camera!
9 WYO has just had her original engine rebuilt and fitted. Back on fuel injection with 9:1 Mahle pistons, a "Neil Brown Engineering" cylinder head. She is running on SAE 30 break in oil until she has completed around 500 miles. l Need to put some miles on he, Covid has messed it all up a bit this year.
Anyway keep up the good work. James

I'm definitely getting old then. When I saw the title 'Forum Magazine' my mind went back to the publication of the same name that was definitely a top-shelf jobbie when I was a pimply yoof!
