Hello group,

How to pull up a jaguar e type on a elevator like the on in the picture. The elevator has 4 pressure points 2 on each side. Can I simply use the points for the jack? Should I use some wood in between?

Using wood blocks will help not damage the car and may help spread the load. The best jacking points are where the car has vertical and horizontal surfaces meeting, e.g. just behind and outboard of the where the IRS trailing arm large bushes meet the car body and also where the front torsion bar reaction plate crosses the footwells.

The worst points to support the car on are flat horizontal surfaces away from any vertical faces.

The IRS itself is held to the car body with four mounts which are normally kept in compression, so it is unwise to let the heavy IRS hang unsupported, as the rubber cage mounts are not designed to be pulled apart by the weight of the differential. The IRS needs a separate support when the rear wheels are left hanging in the air..

My mechanic uses a lift the same as the one pictured.
For the front we use the jacking points as fitted to the car. Just put the rubber pad a little off center to get a clear lift.
For the rear it is a little more difficult. You cannot position the rubber lifting pads on the jacking points without interfering with the IRS stabilising arms. The solution for me was to cut a couple of small blocks of a very hard wood, then drill a small hole to fit the jacking point. With this in place you can Jack the car without interfering with the IRS.
Marek’s comment about supporting the irs if leaving it hanging is relevant. If my car is off the ground for a long period I take the wheels off to reduce weight.
